    help with some newb stuff

    first off yes "another" sniper.

the reason being ive played countless hours in counterstrike..halflife and other first person shooters, as well as playing america's army for a few years, and i cannot keep up with the fast paced fighting style that you need to be on the "front lines" or infantry close up.

many a time i'm the one deciding which gun to switch to fast enuff then target then get a shot off only to be stabbed countless times... such is why i feel better suited to being in the back and shotting you in the eye.

that being said, i'm not asking for sniper spots, i'm just curious at how to gain more points in a given map.

sure kill people will be the answer i'm gonna get, but there are always nuances to each map that makes it easy for veteran players.

my deal since i work and get paid to play games at a cyber cafe.. wil make lan servers and a bunch of us will practice flying the jets and planes, flying under pipes, or through them (kubra dam) to get away from the enemy..

are there little tips or tricks that would help me in scoreing more points to lvl up faster?

    any help would be appreciated

please feel free to look my name up and tell me what i'm doing wrong or almost right...

First thing i can see from your account is that 2/3 of your playing time is in a sniper kit. Now im not wanting to sound cynical, but it is very difficult to rack up points as a sniper if you are quite new to the game. Now i don't know you so you could be an absolutely awesome sniper, however the simple fact is that beginner snipers don't accumalate that many points.

Looking at your kit statistics, and i know what im going to say next is going to cause a lot of friction with whoever reads this thread, i would suggest playing the support or medic kit. This can be on either IO or vehicles, both are good. These kits can get you a lot of points if used properly.

Another tip, i personally 'endorse' is to get to know your weapon. For example, i went on a server with a couple of people and practiced using the grenade launcher with the assault kit.

Sniper 'spots' are useless unless they are quick and easy to get into. If you are going to keep focusing being a sniper (and im sure other people will back me up on this, i have 35 hours playing sniper and a KD ratio of 2.5 with the sniper kit so i have some experience) then keep moving. Dont stay in one spot on a map. If you can, tag on to a squad with a good few medics and some support. The medics mean you can attack the other team and stand in open areas to get some kills and if you're shot the medics will revive you. The support players will keep giving you ammo, which you can use to lay lots of claymores and get lots of kills.

These websites gove good info on all of the kits and maps, weapons, tactics etc.

thanks alot for the insight. i do tend to take a few shots wether i miss or like on one map seemed to have gained access to a flag point, and got 20 kills in a round.

but i do make sure i run around alot and try different angles. the other thing is i love to fly, most maps are bogarted by other players so i wait my turn, but i do switch kits now and again to get medals or to help in a given situation when the team is getting hit hard.

the medic kit ive tried, but seemed to lose patience quickly... i'll keep playing and trying thanks again.

If you like flying, and if you dont mind me saying, that you are relatively new to BF2, how many player servers do you go on? i.e 64 players in server.

If you like flying but dont want to have to wait your turn, go on a 64 player map with a 16 player limit. So there will be a maximum of 16 people on at any one time.

I know that when i was knew i alway wanted 64 player servers because i thought they were better gameplay. 16 player servers have no queues for aircraft plus 16 player servers on 64 player maps = big points.

Nice to see another fellow sniper. Oli is completely wrong about sniping, sniping is a very proficient kit. With 100 hours of sniping under my belt, I would know. I don't exactly know what your asking but i'll try. Once again Oli is wrong, don't join a squad, they'll just get pissed at you for not helping the team. You can join squads that says (snipers) or you can make your own squad of snipers.
If your asking about have to get better as a sniper, you have to get into the action, but also know when to hold back. Running into the front lines will not help. But using strategy in your movements you can find good places. Another thing that will help is the use of all equipment, claymores especially. When on MEC side, lay those babies all over the place, that will help in getting points. Also, I turn my shadows off and increase view distance, so i can see all. When sniping you have to be aggressive to get points, take shots, even if it sacrifices you accuracy a bit. But like i said you need to be able to know your limits. When you don't your limits you get killed, and then starts a chain reaction of bad shooting and many deaths. One last tip for sniping, when not in zoom, move your camera so the area you want to look at is in the corner of your screen. This helps you get past the fog, and increases view distance when trying to find a target.
For making real points, go with the support and medic. When getting a new upgrade get the 2 tier support gun or second tier medic gun if you already have your 2 sniper rifles. The key to medic and support is the squad!!! Get into those squads. Or if you don't want do that, stay at the front lines and revive like crazy. For the support stay back, find your target and shoot in bursts. You can also go crazy and storm into enemy lines and just go berserk. I hope this helps, i can't give you any tips for flying, i've have just recently started to practice. Maybe you can give me tips on flying.

Re: help with some newb stuff

              thanks for the info guys...

as for flying ive opnly used the mouse, but last night i tried our joysticks we have here at the store, and can do barrel rolls and fly fairly well. my only issue with flying jets is learning to actually kill peeps on the ground. i can't pinpoint a way to drop bombs on someone or a tank to kill like i see everyone else doing...

i played on a server last night that was sniper only infantry...it was kool to walk around maps i normally fly over...

my favorite move thus far is on Kubra dam.. at the top of the dam is a smallopening that you can't fly thru... unless your turned sideways. 95% of the time ive been able to fly thru there as well as the pipe on the lower part of the dam...

just practicing getting AWAY from my persuer, is just as important as shooting someone down..

ive still yet to learn the "maverick" manuever.. where a jet is chasing you hit the brakes and he flies past and you lock on...

There is no shortcut to becoming good at sniping in this game. Like CS and all the other games you will have to learn what the pace of the game is.
In addition to other games you will also find out that the different sized maps and the capture of flags will have a significant influence on the way the front shifts. Some maps dont even have a classic front because of their circular CP spread, like Gulf of Oman and Daqing Oilfields. We also have the Infantry Only (IO) option in this game which means no vehicles on the map, but increased Stamina for soldiers etc etc.

Start out by becoming proficient in all the Classes/Kits before moving on into Specializing. If you have put in some hours in all the Kits you will know what they are capable of which in turn will help you counter them in most situations.
Point wise Sniping is possibly the least value for money. If you want to move quickly through the ranks you are better of playing either Medic or Support on IO City maps like Karkand or Jalalabad.
