Personally i prefer it when there are two planes are balenced, yet different. So that you need to use your planes strengths to defeat your opposition. When you have two planes that are the same, you cant use that planes strengths to their full advantage because the other plane has them too.

For example, you can't use the F35's strength at high altitudes when up against another F35 because they'll be able to keep up with you.
