    Artifacts/wierd visuals/shapes in BF2

Hey guys. I bought a new monitor (went from a 17" to a 22" widescreen), and I used the command line hack to change the resolution of BF2 to 1680x1050. Everything works great, except for every once in a while it starts to mess up. I think it might be because of my video card overheating, but I can't be sure... I've never seen a video card create weird spontaneous shapes from overheating

    Weird pillar of grass.

    Color distortion

Lines coming from the center of vehicles, heading off into space...

And while I'm at it, this also has me stumped. No matter how I adjust brightness or contrast, it always seems like there's now an immense amount of bloom with the fog. I can normally see my crosshairs when I aim up at a cloud, but now it's ridiculous. It's almost blinding... I never remember there being this much fog in BF2 (and my draw distance is 100 percent). Maybe I'm just losing it...

      I second the overheating point.

Any artifacing like this is likely your GPU overheating, check the temperatures.

          I have an eVGA 7900GT

The core comes in at 55 degrees C at idle.

I read somewhere that it's the VRAM overheating, but some people don't agree. I'll try underclocking it a little bit and see what it does.

I have the exact same thing happening. My GPU also runs at totally acceptable temperatures, plus it's not overclocked. I have an ASUS 7900 GT TOP. Maybe I should try underclocking too. These huge "pillars" of grass and stone do look quite funny sometimes. What fixes this temporarily for me is Alt+Tab to Windows, then back to BF, and the problems are gone.

Oh and about the fog, it's insanely white for me too, almost shining. I noticed this in Dragon Valley when I was flying high up with a chopper.

That is just the map itself not anything that is hardware related, the map is pretty notorious for difficulty when trying to use the TV missle.

Alright thanks. I did buy a couple of fans for my case, because the GPU has no additional cooling. I'll post here if it helped.

You could have bought an aftermarket cooler for your graphics card instead of case fans.

Well I needed the case fans anyway. But I checked the temperature of the GPU, there's no problem there. I don't get it. Plus, like I said, the problem fixes itself when I go to desktop and back. Maybe something wrong with my Direct3D drivers or something, because I got the same errors in C&C 3: Tiberium wars (weird stripes and sticks pointing outwards from units). Not trying to steal the thread here, but I would also appreciate any help... :/

First thing id say is over heating issues . But ive seen that before on both bf2 and 2142 at 6x anti aliasing. It doesn't happen often and i know its not a heat issue cuz it just happens at 6x ??
