Problem with mic/VOIP

I cant get my mic to work right. Every time I try to talk, people say they can barely hear me. Adjusting it in the Audio section does nothing, and that calibration tool doesnt do anything either. Anyone else have this problem? Its really annoying because I can't communicate at all, so in games like PR, I can't play effectively.

I currently use a speaker/mic setup, but I also have headphones. The headphones have a mic build into them, but the cord doesnt reach both ports (my speaker input is seperate, and my mic input is on the back of the computer, so theres no way I can use it). I tried using the headset to listen, and my mic to talk because I thought maybe the problem was that the game noise interfered with the mic, but that didn't do anything. Is it a problem with the mic I have, or is it something else? I cant figure it out.

If I do that using speakers/mic, people say it sounds "staticy" and they hear a wierd loud noice thats like a crackling sound. I assume it has something to do with my speakers and bass applifying the sound. Ive tried using the headset/mic with mic boost on and when I ask if people can hear me, some say yes, and sometimes I get no responce. If that is the problem, then I was wondering how people who use speakers/mic dont get the same interference. I don't want to be stuck having to wear a headset every time I want to play BF.

Wish I could help, I had alot of problems to get mine working, where did you plug it in? Because I had the same problem and I have 2 places to plug in the mic, and I chose the wrong one and that was the problem. So where is it plugged in?

Yeah it seems to do it really often. BF2 switch mic boost off for some reason. Only solution is to switch back to desktop (Alt + Tab) and open sound settings and from there switch mic boost back on again.

you have a place to plug in speakers on the back too. heres my suggestion, plug your headphones w/ mic into your soundcard on the back of your computer. go to control panel, sounds and audio devices, click the audio tab and select your soundcard under both playback and recording. that should set it up so all your audio comes out of the headphones and the mic connected to them is used for sound input. and before you write back telling me that you dont have a speaker plug on the back of your comp... please turn it around and look because i guarantee that you do.

also, you say that your current mic is plugged into the back of your computer... my guess is that you plugged it into the motherboard audio rather than your soundcard. if you dont know which is which... the sound card is the lower one.

im not flaming you but are you sure youve got the mic turned on? if its a headphone mic combo there might be a switch that turns off the mic, thats what happened to me anyway.

I dont have a sound card. My speakers plug into my sub, which plugs into the back of my computer. I hook up my headest to the speaker volume control unit that is seperate.

Its not that my mic is muted. They can hear me, but its REALY low. Like I said before, if I turn on the boost, they hear static becuase Im guessing it boosts too much.

Already mentioned that I use a mic/speaker setup. Not headphones. When I do use headphones, there is no on off switch, plus I dont use the headphone mic. I use my normal mic, with headphones just to hear.

Doesnt solve the problem.

-One thing I got confused about: In the windows volume control area, my mic IS muted, but it still works in Vent, BF (low but not muted), TS, ect. If I unmute it in the control options, then my mic will ALWAYS be on. Even when Im just on the desktop, it will pick up any sound and play it through my speakers. So I just leave it muted.

- Right now its a problem with my outbound sound. Normal is too low, and boost is too high. I wish they had a control option for that....

ok... so speakers plug into sub. the headphones connect to speakers, or do you switch between speakers and headphones by switching which one is plugged into the sub? the sub plugs into the back of the comp... that would either be a sound card or motherboard audio, but you dont have a sound card, so it must be motherboard audio. Your sub must be taking ur your regular stereo audio jack on the mother board which is why your headphones are not plugged in there. The mic and speaker wires from the headphones are attached to each other until the very end of the wire, so the two plugs must be close together, they cant reach both the speakers and the motherboard audio. You have another analog mic which is plugged into the mic plug on your motherboard audio. this mic works with vent and ts even while it is set to be muted in your volume controls. in bf2, the other players can hear you speaking, but it is so quiet that they cant understand you.

is this correct?

wow this is so confusing lol. I think you got everything right, except my headset/speaker setup. My speakers plug into sub like you said, and the sub plugs into the computer. My speakers came with a volume control unit that also plugs into the sub. This contrul unit has an audio jack. This is where I plug in my headset when I use it. Everything else is right.

I have a feeling that the solution is going to be using a headset/mic combo, but Im trying to figure out how I can use my speakers/mic without the interference and low volume output.

My speakers came with a volume control unit that also plugs into the sub. This contrul unit has an audio jack. This is where I plug in my headset when I use it. Everything else is right.

you could try using the mic from the headset in the back of the comp and not plug in the speaker wire from the headset in. just wear the headset like a necklass with the mic sticking up and your ears exposed (so you can hear the speakers).
if you want to use the sub and the headphones, heres a possible solution. im guessing that the mic and audio wires from the headset are connected to each other with insulation but remain seperate. if this is correct, you could cut the insulation between them so that they can reach to the sub and to the back of your comp at the same time.

I'm kinda confused as to what program you are using to try and speak? TS, Ventrilo, BF2's VOIP?

Whatever, unmute your mic but turn the talk setting onto "Push to talk" or whatever the Ventrilo equivelent setting is. Also turn up the line in amplifier in case its that.

Final step, pick microphone up, walk to bin, discard. Go to some E-retailer and buy a shiny new logitech mic or soemthing...

My suggestion would be to buy a good usb headset with a mic and stop !@#!ing around with your current rigged audio set up (especially since it is not working for you)

1) ANYTHING patched into another device and not hooked directly to your pc is going to have more inteference in the line, than something with a direct connection.

2) On board sound is not the greatest to begin with, so a sound card would definitley help if you wanted better sound and use your existing set up. By the way....what brand speakers are you using, because the quality of speaker will also effect your headset with your current set up!!

3) A USB headset/mic has its sound built in like the Platronics DSP 500 so you don't need a soundcard..these puppies work great on their own, and they would not stop you from using your speakers in the audio jack on the back of your pc.

Just trying to give you some options. Hope it was helpful!

Thats the thing. My Vent works fine, but TS and VOIP have the problem. Im going to try and get a new mic, since this one is already falling apart.
