Lag spikes very common

I'm not sure what's going on, but after a couple weeks break I started playing BF2 last week again. Every few minutes or so my ping will go up to 500ms and come down over the course of 5-10 secs or so.

I'm really not sure what could be causing this. Nothing has changed on my end.

I even ran ping plotter for quite a while on the IP of the server and it showed nice, consistent pings. I know my net connection is fine.

That only leaves me to blame BF2, but there have been no patches or other things released, so I'm not sure what to think. I did watch the pings of other players and occasionally some of them would have the same problem.

probably a server issue. but i have also had the same issue recently

Only thing is that it happened on pretty well every server, just at varying degrees of severity.

the route your signal takes to the server can vary per minute...
if one server along the way is getting overloaded, the route changes...

So your topic title is true, lag spikes ARE very common...
