Well I know of a TWL map I played once it was "city of the dead" I thought it was a deccent one guess it is your choice on if you like it our not though. You could probly find it in the 5vs5 map pack under leagues to download it least I think it is there.
Where do I find servers that serve up custom maps? And when I join do they automatically download the maps (ala Steam servers)? I love playing custom maps, just to see what the common user thinks up...
You don't find custom map servers and BF2 does not download automatically. However, there are some modded vanilla map servers. Like karkand IO with the last MEC flag uncappable and sides changed (MEC attacks) after each round or similarly modified Sharqi and Mashtuur.
