    BF2OpenAL.dll

My cousin sent me an openAL installer and then sent me a BF2OpenAL.dll file to replace the one that installs with the game. He tells me that the guy he got it from told him that EA actually realesed this file to 'fix' the sounds in the game. Have any of you actually heard of this? I haven't installed it yet, but am curious as to what you guys have heard. Thanks!

    Re: BF2OpenAL.dll

It has something to do with the X-Fi cards. Of which some people have this problem and some don't, which is namely a severe drop in performance due to this particular file set up.

I've never experienced the problem so I've only done some very cursory research on it.

But here's the definitive thread at Creative Lab Forums about the subject.

This is the 98th page of the thread that contains the instructions on how to replace this particular dynamic link library file.

    X-fi Performance Drop with Battefield2 Page 98

What ever you do make sure you can undo what you did. I don't think it works for every one is is very dependent on other hardware your using.

    Good Luck.

        Re: BF2OpenAL.dll

BF2OpenAL.dll is a copy of dll (actually named wrap_oal.dll) that Creative ships as part of their OpenAL package. You must replace BF2OpenAL.dll (aka wrap_oal.dll) w/OpenAL32.dll if you want *native* hardware acceleration in BF2. This is probably what your cousin sent you -- OpenAL32.dll renamed to BF2OpenAL.dll.

If you have a creative card, then you already have OpenAL.dll in your \Windows\System32 directory. Copy it to your BF2 folder and then rename it BF2OpenAL.dll (rename the existing BF2OpenAL.dll to BF2OpenAL.bak first of course). You should get better performance and better sounds.
