    More resolutions after 1280x1024?

I honestly didn't see the additional resolutions until recently. Although they are not wide screen it would to see it in a future update. For those that don't know what I am talking about look at these pics. Take note of the red car on the far left of the screen.

    Photos are:
    1280x1024
    1600x1200
    1920x1200
    screen size options

How did you get the additional resolutions to show up in the graphics menu?

Most games detect the supported resolutions of your monitor. My old monitor capped at 1280x1024. My new one goes up to 1600x1200. There are some HUGE monitors that go all the way up to 2560x1600. You need some SLI or a really powerful GPU to handle any new games at resolutions past 1600x1200, in my experience. I'm getting ~80 FPS on big maps using 16x AF, 8x AA, max everything, at 1600x1200. This is using my new 8800GTS Superclocked card.

Back when CRTs were standard, everyone and his dog was running at least 1600x1200, some 2536x1600.

            F*ck LCDs.

i <3 LCD's,to me they seem more clear if u get a quality one an the contrast ratios are starting to become very nice to.

My old monitor was CRT, it only went to 1280x1024...

You still had to have a huge monitor to get up to 2560x1600. By huge, I mean massive in depth, as well. Those things were bigger than televisions!

According to this thread, there will never be widescreen support... that argument is two years too late.

This is a pretty good read about what happens when running higher than 1280x1024.

Look at where the red/white curb meets the crosswalk... you are losing some of the image.

You must be a younger LCD user. So many "kids" have grown up with this less then stellar technology they're amazed when when the see higher resolutions .

I've had a monitor for 7 years now that can display up to 2048x1536.

It's call a CRT. It's massive, it's hulking, but it displays the picture my computers create flawlessly with no issues what so ever.

I would have had to buy 2 possible 3 LCDs over that 7 year period to keep up with resolutions my computers have been able to display.

So the $600.00 cost of this monitor 7 years ago is still the best money I've spent.

I laugh when I see some of the specs of users computers, and find out they're playing at 1280x1024. Sometimes up to 20% of their hardware isn't being used up to it's potential.

1280x1024 even at 16xAA still doesn't look as crisp and clean as a 1600x1200 at 2xAA. After about 70 frames per second your really not getting a smoother more seamless display.

There's no point in building a system that can do these things (1280x1024 w/16AA @ 100+ fps). The monitor is only holding you back. 1600x1200 is such a jump in resolution that even the difference between 2xAA and 8xAA makes little difference. The "jaggies" become so small that smoothing them isn't really an issue.

I have always perfered a higher resolution at a lower AA level to a lower resolution at a higher AA level.

yep disfigured, I also play on a crt, had it for over 5 years and its 22 inches.....thats a FULL 22 inch monitor not like lcd's where they say 19 inch but it just looks longer

see crt's used a measuring system of 3x4....which means for every 4 inches wide its 3 inches high, and an lcd uses a 16x9 measuring system....meaning for every 16 inches wide you are 9 inches high

I believe a 17 inch lcd monitor actually measures 16x9 and a 17 inch crt actually measures 16x12, so my 22 inch crt is actually bigger than a 22 inch lcd, I can go up to a 2048x1536 but I play at 1600x1200 because I dont see a WHOLE lot of difference

Incorrect, I had a Packard Bell monitor from 1995 that could run 2048x1536@85Hz. The only thing that held me back was the 2MB graphics card.

And the monitors were nowhere near that size, they were 22" at most. My Packard Bell was actually something like 17". Maybe 19", not too sure.
