The less you shoot, the better - meaning there will be less recoil. Don't use guns on Automatic, and if you do, only shoot 3-4 bullets at a time.
what are you saying? auto is the best option. You can do single shot (like its hard to click quick, how slow are your fingers?) and 3 round bursts, but if someone jumps in front of you, you can quickly spray them. I dont understand you people, that use Ak's on semi-auto firing mode... so pointless.

Honestly though, use burst fire and I'd recommend staying as far away as possible from using fully automatic fire, even up close. Just use a few shots of burst fire for targets that are far-medium range; you don't have to worry about upper body or head shots, because at this range it's very tough to do. Just aim for the torso/stomach and around that area.

For targets up close, fire longer bursts and do your best to aim for the upper body so that you can inflict as much damage as possible. If you go fully-auto on someone at close range, unless you're right in their face, there's a chance many of the bullets will actually miss the target, making you that much more vulnerable to attack.

Eh wrong ... all the Sniper Rifles are far superior to the g36e.

For more info on weapons in BF2 you could also check the BF2 Weapons Chart by [DUCKS]Black_Duck_1 on this forum.

One more thing to remember is that the ping (distance from you to server, basicly) for almost every server is different. The reason that matters is that it seems to make a difference in your accuracy. To combat this, keep track of the servers you seem to score better on and play mostly on those servers. With the way BF2 works you may have to write the server IP on a note pad but being able to have similar conditions for each round that you play will help a lot. I usually do better if the server ping Im on is around 100 plus or minus 20. But thats just me. . . . . . . . . . . .Red

exactly, you know how hard it would be to keep this forum alive if all threads must be completely original?

Yep...ping is VERY important too...and if you have xfire don't worry about writing down the IP !

Re: Any tips on aiming rifles?

Thanks for the random advice, admittedly this is the first fps I've ever played where I just couldn't get a grasp on aiming... I guess BF2 is just "unique" to put it nicely. Since I guess demo watching isn't very popular in BF2, could you guys throw out the names of some good infantry players I should be watching? I'm not a fan of randomly downloading frag movies from any game to learn how to aim - even in this game I could easily make a movie to make me look incredible by simply recording only my best shots. Are there any good demos that you guys can think of?

Also, I've noticed that there were some posts on interp settings. Has any new information been discovered about these settings? I know that in counter-strike, for example, the optimal interpolation rate was 1/1000 of your update rate, which is what bf2 seems to default to (though the interpolation setting seems a bit high.) On this second topic, I've noticed a lot of people complaining that it may be some form of cheat since it gives you an unfair advantage - I, (as does much of the competitive community, at least in CS) think it's the other way around - high interp settings, while randomly denying kills, also gives players the unfair advantage of being able to shoot people who have run behind walls - frankly I'd rather have someone kill me because they aimed at me legitimately rather than be granted a few gift kills because they aimed in the general vicinity of my head.

I've been looking at some of the people on the leaderboard on bf2s (people who whored infantry maps, and didn't nade spam, of course) and was quite surprised to see that my accuracy with assault rifles was hovering around theirs. (I'm at 25.15% right now) It's a small sample size but I'm admittedly a bit bothered with that since compared to the few times I've bothered to measure my accuracy in CS in death matches (the only pubs I really played), I'm at a considerably lower rate, and this doesn't even factor in the fact I would randomly decide to spray walls, harass teammates by shooting them in the back of the head, and get a much higher percentage of headshots.. things I haven't been doing in bf2. I might just be over-analyzing this, but it's been quite a while since I've had trouble aiming in a FPS (been playing them constantly since Wolfenstein 3D, great game.)

Re: Any tips on aiming rifles?

No you dont understand. This has nothing to do with staring at ownage videos in shock and awe. Since there is no first person view in BF2 demo files, the only resource of true first person checkup on players are the.... voila- ownage videos.

So really, dust the pride off your shoulders and go dig into google.com video sections. You will not regret this.

As for interpolation rates and such, there have been discussions about it, but the problem has been that the correct settings vary for people.

I understand that, which is why I wanted the names of some good players. Like I said, I'm willing to watch frag movies, but it's pointless to watch a bad player get amazing kills - that'll show me nothing about aiming technique.

There are a few names you should be interested in. Im going to check a few videos you ought to be watching and come up with a list (and URLs of course). :)

When staying back, always use single shot, saves ammo, and quicker kills.
When moving up, make sure to use burst/auto and not to spray the gun, aim and fire, don't fire unless you don't have a shot.
