ok i have only had one ATI card which was a 9250 old card, i currently have an Nvidia 7300 but will soon be upgrading. Now i have heard great things about this card, but i want to hear from owners who play BF2 on how well it performs compared to Nvidia cards. If any one has pics id like to see them to kinda compare to a 7800 GTX which my dad has. When i visit him i tend to enjoy playing BF2 on his comp just because i get great performance. I just want to know what an ATI Radeon® X1950 compares to in Nvidia terms since thats all i pretty much know.

There are different versions of the x1950 and there is quite a bit of difference between the pro version and the XTX. Which version do you want to compare? -

You don't want to buy a Radeon. Believe me, if you ever have had one, don't even bother to try. 1950 Pro with a decent CPU runs BF2 easily on all high and so on though, but so does 7900 GS and many others. Ati's drivers are very messed up, and IMO in BF2, image quality is very poor. Object and ground LOD act strange and trees and so on look ugly and so on. And then the custom resolutions and refresh rates.... You don't want to use them on a Radeon. But otherwise they're very good and fast cards.Comment

pretty nice, i have had a Radeon but it was a 9250 so it wasnt anything special, and i was told not to get GS when buying nvidia, i have a 7300 GS and was gonna upgrade to a 7900 GS but i was told not to because GT is better so thats why i asked about RadeonComment

I changed from 6800 Ultra to 1950 Pro (Pci) and thought Ati would have learned their lesson on making drivers, but I found not. I had enough problems and I'm back to nVidia now. Playing Project Reality became very difficult because of LOD and other Ati driver specific features. You simply can't shoot as far as with Forceware. Even on lowest quality. For example ground looses it's shape (I'm sure everyone has noticed this) and hills become see-through. You think you're shooting him but you're just hitting dust. Also object details are harder to tell apart from extremely long distance (like 10x10 pixels), just what PR is all about because of long range of weapons.
And I'm trying to run desktop and most games with custom resolutions, but find it next to impossible. With all the problems I simply can not recommend Ati for anyone (buy it, it's a great deal though). It may be faster, but I don't really give a **** if it doesn't work how I want. Hardware is state of art, but drivers have tens of small features/bugs which make usage pain. If you don't really use your computer it might be a good choice though, everything works smoothly as long as you don't want to do something it simply can not do.
E: and oh, don't even mention Linux. Most people will never need it, but it does not work on Ati.Comment

There's no reason to get anything but a 512MB card. If you want the high resolution...you need that extra vRAM. Ati's do tend to be faster...but if I were to overclock my[XFX GeForce]7950 GT[Extreme Edition w/ Passive Cooling] just a tiny tiny bit, I can grab an edge in performance over Ati. From my personal experience, Nvidia has better picture quality, but doesn't run quite as fast. It really depends on you.Comment
