You are right, but I have such loose mind when placing small items safely.
Also that danger knows how to use power pliers. She is also very capable of hiding those pliers...

Nah, I recon a battle lost before it has even started.
Ah, praise be to the lord of the padlocks!

If you remember AceFinsun, I departed on a long quest. I ventured through many treacherous lands, faced the Great Chinese emperor No Chin, defeated several "danger"s and I have managed to retrieve the Holy Grail of Spaghetti Bolognese!

The result of this application brings forth my latest invention:

That's right - sharks with friggin' laser beams attached to their friggin' heads. Place one of these in your electricity cabinet and I guarantee that danger shall face you no more.

    Farewell, AceFinSun.

Check your sound settings. Sometimes - especially on soundblaster soundcards - there is actually a slider and mute button for the microphone on the output side. It is usually muted so you DONT hear yourself, but in this case, it sounds like you do.
That is your solution right there. Totally no need to create some physical/electronic solution outside of what your computer is already capable of.

What the OP is asking about is referred to as sidetone in telephone design.

It's pretty interesting that this pretty important aspect has been left out of mobile phone design to date. Explains why so many people yell into their damn mobiles though. :/

Yup un-muting your mic is what you want to do. Doesn't matter if its a soundcard or onboard sound.

What you need to do is quite simple. In the bottom right hand corner of your screen you should see a little grey speaker. Open up the volume controls. If you don't see your mic listed, click options/properties, make sure its on playback, then scroll down and check the microphone box. Go back now and you should see the microphone (hear yourself) volume control. It will be muted, untick it and adjust the volume to suit, problem solved.

Just a little hint for those with onboard sound...

You would be amazed at the difference in the performance of your computer if you were to add a decent sound card and disable onboard sound. You can probably find a card under $100 easily that will do the trick! With onboard sound, your motherboard is forced to divert resources for processing audio. With a sound card, the card does all the work. Another tidbit of information is NOT using USB headsets but headsets that plug directly into the sound card. When using USB, the Mobo is again asked to process audio. You are bypasssing the audio card. I use Plantronics headphones with a Plantronics audio A/B switch so I can easily go from headphones to speaker system.

BTW, this would allow you to unmute the microphone!

Re: Maintaining domestic peace, any electronics designers around??

              Solution found thanks fellows :)

I bought new a sound card, for some reason my ASUS mobo integrated soundcard didn't allow me to uncheck that mute box. Now I got Creative XtremeGamer soundcard and I have to say; What a world of difference! As said no more fighting with my wife, now I can hear myself speaking, so no more need to raise volume...but hey this is a new game now. There is actually really good sounds in this game. I can hear the direction of passing plane, I can hear where the artillery is dropping, hell I can hear somekind of church bell pealing on Mashtuur City. Coach you are absolutely right!

People, invest few euros, dollars or what ever to get a soundcard, it really is worth it.
