Whats with the DAO?

I hear a lot of people talking about how they think the DAO is one of the best guns, and if they had to do it all overa again, it would be one of the first ones they get. Am I missing something, cuz I dont see it as THAT great. Sure its better than all the other shotguns, but its only close range.

Well, I think it is an important unlock. Might not be the best, but it is vital to get that one early on if you have to run around as AT. This also comes from back with the fire rates/damage of the stock AT guns were really bad ( think it was fixed in the 2nd or 3rd patch). But, because the stock weapons are good enough, after you unlock the first sniper rifle, it is good to go with a DAO for the option.

its purely opinionated. its one of the last guns i unlock because i would easily rather have a g36c or L8. i would also take the m11-87 over it, but thats a debate for another thread.

But, in hindsight, I would not even go with the L85, because the AK and M16 are so good in a trained hand. The M95 is important first because you don't always want the SVD. After that, DAO is important if you ever have to go AT. But I will say it is good to have the SpecOp unlock also, but not as necessary.

playing AT on a city map the DAO is a good acompliment to the kit given that most of the fighting is close combat,

AT is versatile if it needs to blow up a tank it can,TI can shoot someone at long range with its AT rocket and the primary gun is good at close range.

just about every anti tank dude i see has a DAO-12 and they bloody hit me from a mile away!!!

That's because even though it's a shotgun you can fire so many shells in a short period of time that some pellets will probably hit even a fairly long range. If it takes all 12 rounds to get a kill, so what, you've got plenty more.

Sorry to digress, but I have to take issue with that statement... I have re-discovered the L85A1... and it rocks. Basically I use it as a sniper rifle, like an SVD with an automatic setting and 30 rounds. I still like the AK101 for close-up, but the L85 is nothing to scoff at.
