Lost connection all the time, sometimes

I get the error "Your connection to the server has been lost" before I can click the Join game -button, or I might be able to play for a couple minutes, then I get the error. This might go on for maybe 1-2 hours, then it works normally again. I know this is a common problem. I have read many posts and tried the following:

- manual update of Punkbuster
- turning off my firewall
- turning off every other program (ICQ/MSN/IRC/bittorrent)

I also disabled the Windows firewall from the Services-window. I am at a loss here. I can live with it when it happens on public servers, but in a clan match it's horrible, when suddenly I get Lost connection all the time. I would really appreciate any additional help. I'm ready to try all kinds of things to correct this problem.

Couls be your ISP that's at fault. Tried calling them?

I have same issue.

But the thing is, I can play CS:Source for 40 hours straight, but I can only play bf2 for about 30 minutes then disconected

I really hadn't considered calling my ISP. Maybe I should. I don't know what they could do though. I don't have much choice on the connection I have here, so I pretty much have to go with what I have now...

Its not the anti virus
Its not the punkbuster update

etc etc.

Me and a friend had the same probs.
We searched all the forums and tried all the things they wrote without any results.
It was our asus SLI deluxe motherboard with the AMD processor.

We switched to a new motherboard with Intel Core 2 and we never had a conn. issue again.

I have an ASUS mobo with a Pentium D805 processor. I wonder if this really could be the cause. If so, I probably can't afford to fix it right now.

I have and ASUS SLI Deluxe mobo with AMD CPU, and that is not the issue!! Everytime my ping spikes, I have a loss in ISP signal strength....and I get an connection error!!!

I had a cable modem from my ISP and it disconnected me all the time. I gave it back to them and bought a Surfboard modem that was good for low signal strength...and IT WORKS GREAT!!! I do get the random Lost connections, but I see a ping spike, and sometimes my wife says the TV fickered at the same time I get disconnected....so it is an ISP signal issue with my computer.

So don't go saying it has nothing to do with ISP!!!

I just turned my Voip off, now it works fine, but no voice support...

so how do you know its wasnt the cpu tho, cos you said u switched to a skt 775 mobo which means you had to switch cpu too. haha

it could have been someform of malware tho as you dont rule it out, and you have i assume formatted your HDD to install the new hardware. So skeptically thinking you assumed it was the mobo, but not too sure.

When i had connection prbs it was due to the fact that i had not opened certain ports on my router.

try this,
for wireless..
2. Click General > Properties.
3. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
4. Under Preferred Networks, click your home network and then click Properties.
5. Click Authentication, then clear the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box. (If you cannot click the check box, then you are not using 802.1x authentication or wireless security.)

goto start, control panel, network connections, double click to open your connection then click configure, then in the new box click advanced tab, then where it says desired rate or something similar choose your speed, for example my max speed i can connect upto is 54Mbps, select the speed you can max use, then apply & ok this. You may have to reboot for it to take effect.

I have searched BF2 boards thousands of times and never found a topic where someone figured it out and solved the conn. probs.

Maybe in some cases it is the ISP or whatever but in 95% of the cases its the mobo/cpu combination.

Me and a friend went for the same new setup (asus a8n sli/amd64 x2 4600) and we both had the freaking conn probs all the time.
We never had any issues with our old setups.

We went trough all the tips to solve it and non of them worked.

We where almost possitive it was the mobo/cpu so we bought a new mobo and went Intel core 2.

After changing only these 2 all our conn probs where history!

btw, we only had probs with BF2, all other games worked fine.

funnily enough if what your saying is true about ASUS Boards, then its the patches that have brought this on, because the original version i never once had a problem and i had the same motherboard i did back then, just now everything else has changed inside my machine, but you might be onto something because it has 2 lan ports, ones a pain to get working and the other is ASUS branded

OK People i think i have solved the problem for a select few, People who are running the Nvidia Nforce Network Card and drivers will most probably experience drops, i have setup my secondary network card which is a Marvell, and while on the Marvell no drops AT ALL, played 5hrs straight, now i swapped to the Nvidia Nforce and i cant even play for 10 mins without dropping out, problem solved here, so try a different network port, if you dont have one, get a different network card, i suggest Marvell!

i get same problem and i have an asus K8N4-E SE motherboard
chips set = Property Nvidia Corp
AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+
turned of viop it worked for a bit and now i get same problem
