OK what exactly is the secret to the TV guided missle?

It's the last weapon of BF2 I need to work on / master. Yes I know you can guide it, but pardon the pun, I could use some guidance on the particulars.

I'm a BF2 vet, am a regular squad leader and commander so feel free to give me the good tips.

And save the flaming, I'm honestly asking for help.

PS. I can fly the thing quite well and use the cannon, just can't get the hang of the guided missles.

    Thanks in advance.

    You click?

Just aim for the target and keep the clicks to a minimum, unless you have to curve the shot pretty far.

When you click, the missle will change it's flightpath to the direction you clicked.

It's awkward. Some say aim ahead, some say lead...sometimes, I feel it's random, but in any case...NEVER hit the target dead on(choppers for the most part).

Tanks and other armors seem to work fine. Light transport is easy enough, heavy transport seems to be a bit harder, I've hit them dead on and never killed a humvee.

Choppers, I suggest aiming for(like I do) the tail or rotor(where it meets the chopper ya know).

As metallica said...keep the clicks to a minimum, it's easier that way. Once you master it, you can start fast clicking(which I do in certain situations, don't like it).

Learn the hitboxes. Watch soloing/gunning videos.

Ummm...yeah...it's pretty much practice practice practice.

Hopefully, your pilot will line you up nicely as it makes it much easier. Once the TV is on its way every left click will align it to the crosshair. So keep the crosshair on the target and keep clicking to make the minor adjustments.

Make the big adjustments early in terms anticipating where the target will be at impact.

Hit boxes tend to lag a little behind the model. Therefore, aiming at the back end of model tends to get better results. This only really applies to the faster moving stuff, helis and planes (not armour) - ie aim for the tailplane not the cockpit.

The TV can be a bit buggy expect to go through models without kills sometimes (hitbox lag i guess), and expect occasional issues with firing lag

Depends on the situation. If said target is stationary, aim for it directly
If said target is moving, aim where it is going.

see I do the exact opposite, I click like hell and it seems to work for me, but I do lead the target alot when it is travel sideways in front of me

Example of fast clicking, where to aim...what to expect(unfortunately).

It's an excerpt of a beta multi-gaming video I was making and never finished/released.

Might have to wait a few minutes.

Practice... that's all I can recommend. Some people have a natural talent, others need to work really hard to get proficient at it: odds are you'll fall somewhere in the middle and get really good after focused practice. I recommend you lead your target (you'll need decent prediction skills) until the very last moment, at which point you literally drive the TV right into the target.

                  Watch Sloi and Churra's videos.

Thats how I learned in a hurry. I stole their moves.

Fundamental difference. If youre an avid FPS player, youre aiming with the center of the screen, not with the crosshairs. And a lot of people cant get over that difference so they really wont do good because the TV guidance is different.

The moment you realize that you have to focus on the crosshair, and start guiding it with that in mind, you will start making fast progress in your efficiency.

You need a decent pilot to at least point you in the right direction. Of course, the closer you are to the target the less time you have to change your shots (which is why I like to take longer distance shots).

Be sure your ping is decent (below 80?). I had one guy says he normally would hit the shots he was taking. After dying 2 in a row I gave up, but then look at his ping (which was around 200). I thought he was an American with an Australian accent.

You can practice in SP (especially with the SP64 mod) and let the bots (or a friend) fly you around. The bots do a decent job giving you good shots but they are very methodical.

Click to the target and you will hit it.
