Fraps: Recorded movie only plays sound, but no video

The topic pretty much says it all. The video won't show, but I can hear the sound from the recording. What's wrong? I use VLC media player for playback and I have no additional video codecs installed. I run Fraps at Half-size 30 FPS. Does it require installation of video codecs? As I've understood it, Fraps doesn't compress video much, hence the huge filesize. VLC plays everything else so well.

    Computer specs:

    Pentium D805 @ 3,3 GHz
    Asus GF 7900 GT TOP
    2 x 1 Gb DDR2
    Main HDD is a 160 Gb SATA2 7200 RPM
    Windows XP Pro SP2

I run BF2 at 1280x960 resolution, no AA and settings on medium.

Try downloading the K-Lite Codec Pack, it may be that you don't have the Codec installed, this pack will give you alot more Codec's :)

VLC dose the same for me, so open it in Windows Media Player.

Hah. How about that. I downloaded Media Player Classic, and the video plays perfect. Thanks for the quick reply Problem seems to be solved.

I had the same problem a while ago. Previously I had no issues and then it simply died and would only play the sounds during playback of the newer recordings.

I simply reinstalled and it fixed me.

It may be simply you do not have the option "record video" checked. Fraps can either record video only, audio only or audio and video..make sure you have it set up right.. I've never had a problem with it.

VLC has never worked for FRAPS playback for me. Make sure you actually installed FRAPS (simply copying the folder from a previous install or w/e won't work) so that the FRAPS codec gets installed, then just play the raw footage back with WMP.

agreed. KLite is one of the first things I usually grab for a new OS install. never had any problems viewing videos with it.
