    Nvidia 8800GTS problems

    Machine Specs

    4GB OCZ(4x1024MB) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 CL 4-5-4-15 PLATINUM XTC EDITION DUAL CHANNEL KIT
Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x DVD±RW Dual Layer Internal IDE (Black) - OEM
Hiper Silver 730W Modular PSU - Omnigrid II Quad SLI Ready
Microsoft OEM Windows XP x64 Bit SP2B
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ (Socket AM2) - Retail with Fan
    Asus Crosshair SLi nForce 590 PCI-E (Socket AM2) DDR2 Motherboard XFX nVidia GeForce 8800GTS XXX Edition '550MHz' 640MB DDR3 Dual DVI/TV Out (PCI-E) - Retail

All windows updates installed, battlefield 2 with 1.41 patch.

Now this setup surely should run bf2 on high, but not BSOD, on medium it runs fine, but in the last 24 hours, machine has froze once whilst it idle, noone was in the house using it, and bsod 3 times, the last time the reference nv4_disp.dll was mentioned.

I have tried the drivers from the xfx website aswell as the ones windows update finds and also the latest from the nvidia site, all do the same, can't play bf2 on high, but can on medium and sometimes it will bsod, sometimes it won't.

    Any help appreciated.

What driver versions have you tried? I don't know about 64 bit XP's, but they are tricky.

Try these (if you haven't tried yet).

Try looking around Guru3d site, they usually have all nVidia drivers you'll ever need

    This may also help

Also pre-clocked 8800 could also be the source of the problem, try underclocking it. If it does help, it's faulty.

this was a GTS not a GTX, turned out to be faulty along with 2gbs of my ram, both sent back and got a GTX 768mb instead, runs sweet....
