Anybody want to dogfight sometime?

I've been flying in pubs and stuff, but I've come to the realization that 95% of the pilots I run into are pathetic morons.

I'm not very good at dogfighting yet, but I don't get shot down by other planes very often. I can take down a J-10 with my F-35 about 75% the time against most pilots in pubs. I can't figure out any reason for this besides the fact that most pilots are idiots, because I seriously am not very good and should not be shooting down J-10's.

In any case, I was wondering if anybody wanted to do some 1v1 dogfighting sometime. I need the practice, and would love to fly against somebody who isn't a moron

Novice pilots looking for an even fight or experienced fliers looking own somebody for kicks, I'll play with anybody... Only way to get better is playing against people who are better than you!

I shot down 4 J10s in a round, the same guy 2x (he was a Major, now I know how he got that rank), and some other high-ranking-crap-flyers. Then I got taken down by some random guy with the same rank as me, despite being about 3000 alt up and 3500 mph or whatever, AND doing turns that shouldn't be possible with the F-35.


As for this, I don't think I'd be good enough for a decent 1v1 yet...

I don't care if you aren't good, neither am I I just want to do some 1v1 flying in an empty server or something. I'd like to get really good at ATA fights before I start to work on my ground-pounding. I figure keeping myself in the air and keeping the other guys on the ground (or at least occupied by me and not bombing my ground troops) is more important than learning to bomb accurately, at least for now.

I tend to get stuck in the same habits doing the same maneuvers over and over... I always do a quick turn with afterburners if I get locked onto, and then a downward roll/inverted loop.

I dunno, I suppose flying against anybody in a 1v1 situation will be good experience as I can see more maneuvers, see what works and what doesn't, etc.

I'd definitely be down for dogfighting you sometime metallica, expect an Xfire msg at some point! Going to steal all your tactics :evil: Will probably give you a nice ego boost as well, win-win situation!

the best dogfights come from when both sides use the same jet except for
j10 vs j10 then it just feels like 2 squirels hiding behind trees calling down b2 strikes.

Yeah I agree, I like the planes to be balanced or at least not hideously imbalanced (j-10 vs f35...), though I usually take the f35 in that situation just because you don't learn anything from flying a j-10 :p

I flew a bit last night and I have some things I need cleared up.... I just don't understand why my missiles never hit people. I don't usually have a problem with missiles or cannons hitting people, but the guy I was flying against yesterday would just do a barrel roll and somehow they would miss? Common sense would say you want to do a barell roll to avoid machine guns, but do a loop or turn to get away from missles - something that would get you out of alignment with the other plane.

I just have no idea wtf was happening.... I'd be like 50m behind the other guy, lock, let off a missle, and he's just do a small roll and the missle would fly over his shoulder.

I think I understand how missiles work (they refresh their view and then realign with the target), and before last night all I ever needed in a fight was to lock on, wait for the enemy to flare, and then let off 2 missiles and turn away, confident that I got the guy. But apparently barrel rolls screw with the way missiles track somehow?

I dunno. Hopefully I'll have more time to play tonight

If you haven't done so already, download the Wake Airshow map and check out those servers from time to time. You should meet a number of people, at wide ranging skill levels, that are interested in dogfighting.

If you are mostly interested in 1v1 dogfights, it might not be the best place. However, it is alot of fun when the server is busy :)
