Microsoft flight simulator is kinda the most realistic game you can buy, the other "games" are ones that costs around $100,000 and require a flight simulation cockpit.

BF2 is arcade as it gets.

LOMAC is an "accesible" flight sim - but it's still pretty complicated.

Falcon 4.0 is the hardest of the hardcore - it has a 700 page manual.

If your looking for moderen combat flight sims falcon 4.0 is a really great game along with microsofts combat flight simulator. but for regular flying you should get flight simulator X.

Combat Flight Simulator War in the Pacific, it rocks. Land graphics are pretty poor but planes look great even by today's standards. Aircraft damage like bullet holes and broken wing tips, oil leaks etc... planes handle realistically and vicory in combat really is down to sheer skill. You can play online. Wait for the latest installement of sturmovik it'll be good too.

Coming back to make a more sensible point I agree with you on CFS: Pacific Theater (?). That was perhaps the only flight sim I have actually found interesting.

EA/Dice did a great job on aircrafts in Battlefield 2, but I think your question is kind of stupid, no offense. Of course there are better Flight Simulaters.
Flight Simulator is very realistic, but you said it sucked a**, well that is what a flight simulator is buddy. Sure Battlefield 2 is more fun, but not even close when comparing realism.

il 2 sturmovik was and still is the most realistic wwII game, but if your looking for a modern game go for falcon 4.0

                      Every single one of them.

BF2 is not a flight sim by even longest stretch of the imagination. Not even close.

Flying an airplane and a jet are tedious and exacting jobs. If a game even comes close to simulating it, it should be difficult as hell and so touchy you feel like quitting the first day you try it.

Ground vehicles in BF2 at least somewhat mimic their real life counter parts. If the Jets in BF2 were even inline with the ground vehicles in BF2 , people wouldn't be Tking for them. It would take you 5 minutes to make a turn and line up a target. The out-of-bounds where the jets travel now would have to be 100 times bigger. You'd fly through the inbounds area at top speed in the blink of an eye, and you'd probably stall if tried to go slow enough to get a visual on a target.

The runways would have to be 20 times longer then what they are now.

If every vehicle in BF2 reacted equally to what Jets do, I'd be able to make a jeep do BMX moves on it's rear wheels. A tank could climb the steepest incline with no problems, and an APC would handle like a Formula 1 car.

                          L O M A C .

LOMAC is downright awesome. It is VERY realistic, and goes to a pretty far depth of realism in many many different aspects, but It's very doable, with very informative training tracks and such. LOMAC simulates the sense of flying to the best extent, the feeling of flight is very much there compared to Falcon, where it feels so simplistic, almost as if the F-16 was flying on rails, so 1 dimensional.

It IS very complicated though, down to operating the systems and such, it can be overwhelming to even aviation litterate people. Expect to spend a good week or two just to get one plane down.

One of the largest pluses is that The Graphics of LOMAC never get old either. Everytime I fly, I'm impressed.

How do you fly the F-18 in LOMAC? Is that a mod or expansion?

Who said I was flying it?

It's AI. But you CAN fly any AI jet you want, just with one of the default cockpits and dynamics, with a simple command to the files.
