Goes black ingame but game keeps going!!!

    Hey everybody...

    new here but anyway.
Recently I installed Battlefield 2 again and Special Forces, I updated the game
to patch 1.41. As I started playing the game would lock up after 10-15 minutes
and my computer would just restart. I thought of updating my graphics driver
which I did but now I get a similar problem but my computer does not restart.
All that happens now is simply that the game goes black, then after about 10 seconds I can keep playing, then after roughly 10 seconds the screen goes black again and STAYS black, but I can strangely enough still shoot my gun, and i can still load the menu and exit out. But the screen remains black until I exited to the desktop. Just to make sure... I deleted old ATI files before updating drivers.
    System specs :

    Medion
    Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz
    3.19 GHz, 1gb RAM
    Radeon X740XL

    Thanks, help is appreciated

im not familiar with the radion x740xl, but im almost positive its your graphics card, i had this same problem in Ghost recon: advanced warfighter. In my new pc i got a Geforce 7600gs and i still have the same power supply that i had in my old pc. works like a charm :)

Hmmm where can I see how powerful the powersupply is
Yeah it could be the graphics card but I wonder because a while back I could play 3 maps straight, now I cant even play half a map.

Most likely something is overheating. What are your video settings? Have they changed before the reinstall? Why did you reinstall BF2/SF?

Umm I think my video settings are lower than before the install :S I reinstalled because I was getting crash to desktop when starting up the game , i got fed up so i uninstalled, now I installed it again. I recently cleaned out the PC casing from dust because I thought the fan was clogged, this didnt seem to help.

take the left panel off the case, look at the top left of the case there will be a large box, on the side of this will tell u what Wattage your PSU is.

uninstall the gfx drivers using driver cleaner & then dload the latest drivers for your card.

After the driver update, clean out your bf2 cache.

alright my power supply usage is 230-240 watt, dloaded the new drivers already and deleted the old ones, this didnt help altough i havent tried deleting Battlefield cache yet, ill give it a go.

Sorry guys , powersupply Watt usage is 350 W

Alright I believe ive found my problem, as camperstruck said i also believed something is overheating, i opened the side of my computer when i was playing battlefield, i touched my graphics card after about 5 minutes of playing and i actually burnt my finger, as if touching a lightbulb, i touched the part around the fan, the metal and then i suddenly noticed that my fan IS NOT spinning, so i believe the problem is that my fan does not kick in to cool the card down.
