    Is this a valid reason to be kicked?

    The servers in my favorites were all full, so I jumped on a random server which I have never played on before. I'll never play there again, so I'm not mad and don't really care, but I was just wondering if this is a legit rule. (And no, it was NOT listed in the rules as shown when loading the map.)

    The server was named "24/7 Oman by TSC" (server IP 72.36.225.220), and I just joined the server when spawned in on my SL at the MEC UCB. He was near the havoc (or whatever the MEC attack chopper is called), so I jumped in it and flew it away. I didn't base rape, though the server rules clearly stated that that was permissible.

    Anyway, about a minute later I got kicked for "STEALING ENEMY ASSETS." WTF? Here's the SS:

    Don't tell me to report it to BFROE. I would, but it's too much trouble registering just to report something so trivial. :) I'm just curious if this is a valid reason to kick on a ranked server.

      I agree, but nevertheless, is it an allowed rule? That's what I am wondering. :)

        Apparently, this is not uncommon. I just jumped on another random server, and this time, the stupid rule was actually listed in the loading screen:

        Not that EA cares anymore about BF2, but surely ranked servers should not be allowed to have rules like this, right?

        Update: Yikes... While playing on this server, this rule scrolled by:

        A permanent ban for stealing vehicles?!? Wow. Surely, that's against the RoE, yes?

          You mean everyone who has ever played on that statpadding server should get reset? How exactly would it change things if there are hundreds of servers enforcing this rule? If the rules state something and you get a perm ban there's only one to blame. Besides it's rather noobish to steal enemy vehicles. If it'd be a real fight, stealing would be ok but they were playing for fun, and stealing isn't fun for them.

            That's not the point of this thread, and you know it. The question is whether or not it's against the RoE. FYI, a ranked server must obey a set of rules common to all players, not just ones the server owner fancies. If the server owner wants to enforce custom rules to suit his own playing deficiencies, then that's fine, but it would have to be on an unranked server I would think.

            You're joking, right?

            So you are claiming only a n00b can manage to fight his way all the way across the battlefield, go deep behind enemy lines, take out the arty, UAV, etc. if he's spec-ops, but then if he jumps in a vehicle once he survived all that, he's considered a n00b in your book? hahahahaha That's too funny. :laugh:

              Re: Is this a valid reason to be kicked?

              As a Spec Ops on many servers I now can't:

              Enter the enemy uncap unless I intend to blow up enemy assets;
              I must leave immediately (so com can magic box his stuff back);
              I cannot steal an enemy vehicle to escape;
              I cannot shoot anyone in the uncap (under attack uncap);
              I cannot mill about uncap, be resupplied. I must leave.

              This is a conglomerate of retarded rules on ranked servers I frequent.

              I want the good old days of BF2 back, when there was an entire squad dedicated to keeping enemy assets destroyed, the enemy in disarray, and the subsequent enemy squads sent to defend/repair the assets.

              This has been all but destroyed, along with any reason Spec Ops exists, other than just another gun to choose when you're bored with the others.

              Stupid server rules are game breaking Why does EA or our beloved BF2ROE think that this is a good thing?

              Stupid rules like this are not against the ROE. The ROE states that rules creating
              minor changes to the gameplay are allowed.

              The problem is, with so many 'minor' rules, they're starting to add up to a very restrictive, game-breaking mode of play.

                Re: Is this a valid reason to be kicked?

                sadly - it IS an acceptable local modded rule permitted by the before
                if stealing is a preferred past time
                just find another server with less restrictive rules
                we used to play NO RULES but as a clan - got too good
                CRUSHING opponents
                especially attacking the uncaps with jets
                so, to allow players the opportunity to At least enter the field of battle
                we stopped attacking uncapps, but then we stole all their jets/helos anyway
                then that go too lopsided at times - so we stopped that as well
                yes - many rules seem lopsided in favor of the server owners
                but ours are to help visitors enjoy the game more

                  True... if you think of it logically...

                  Take the number 3 as a big rule, and 1 as a minor rule...

                  Now these admins add one large rule, 3 points...

                  Then the other admin.... doesn't like how he gets owned all the times and makes bannable "offences" to stay alive... he makes 5 points... making his server stricter...

                  I know it seems random but that's how it works in my mind :)

                    Re: Is this a valid reason to be kicked?

                    I play on Drunkenmasters quite frequently and never noticed the "no stealing enemy assets" rule. Hell, last night on Daqing Oilfield, I went over to the PLA base, blew the satellite scan radar and the UAV trailer.
                    An engineer in a car came over to repair it while two guys in the Havok came to see what was going on. As the engineer was repairing the sat. scan radar, the two guys in the helo got out and I proceeded to help myself to it. A few admins were on but nobody said anything.

                    Anyway, another server I play on has NO RULES whatsoever...wanna camp in the enemy base, go ahead. Arty an uncap? Sure. Steal everything in sight? Be my guest.
                    World Force is the name of the server, I don't have the IP handy though.

                      why wouldnt it be a legit rule? its their server, their rules. although its a dumb rule, but still, they pay for the server.

                        Well, that's extremely subjective. What exactly distinguishes major from minor? [rhetorical question]

                        No, as I stated in the original post above, I was just there by happenstance: my SL was there in the UCB, so I spawned in on him as spec-ops to blow the arty and UAV, but to my surprise the havoc was just sitting there, so I took it. :)

                        I'm sorry, guys, but I just don't agree that this is a "minor" change. In principle, restricting a player to only a subset of the vehicles is the same as restricting the player to only a subset of the weapons--a.k.a., knife and pistol (K&P) servers--and that certainly isn't allowed, so neither should be this "stealing enemy assets" business.

                        Please read my original question and stop with the knee-jerk responses. "Their server, their rules" is not applicable when they run their server as a ranked server. By applying for "ranked" status, they are agreeing to run their server by EA's rules, not their own.

                        Update: I was just reading that "Kicked for not using VENT" thread, and as it happens, nvajim posted a rule from the RoE:

                        2.3.1 (b) Preventing any players from using certain vehicles such as jets, helicopters or tanks.

                        So based on that, how can you guys claim that it's okay to make it a kickable offense for stealing a vehicle?

                            Being banned for stealing vehicles is the dumbest rule I've ever herd, so what if it's not fun for the team that got its vehicles stolen it's not fun to be killed either but I'm not going to stop just because the other guys dont like it.
