    Not happy

I have been a huge fan of PR since the first verion and have played in a tourney , i loved playing this mod for the teamwork and realism but now in 0.5 i am hugely disapionted with it . First off i have had CTD's on nearly all the maps that i have tryed , and when i atlast got in i could not enjoy the game due to the bugs , i got stuck in apcs , kept getting hurt from exiting a practicly still nanjing and many more . But to be fair i am amazed with the new content the new guns , chopper , destroyable buildings and so on , but it seems to me that you guys have gone to far on the coding side of having to have a crewman kit to drive , i thought this was good idea when i saw it but when playing it is very anoying :hmm:

I dont want this to be a huge rant thread , just voice my thoughts of how this can be corrected in the next version .

    Re: Not happy

Did you completely remove v0.4 by uninstalling it from the Add/Remove Programs list in your CP, and then removing the pr folder in the Battlefield 2/mods directory? This could be the cause of your crashes.

Also, some servers haven't updated yet, so that is another possible cause.

You shouldn't be getting stuck in APC's. Even if your vehicle is moving slightly, you will receive some damage when exiting. Come to a complete stop first.

eggman was right when he said that the dev team was trying alot of new things, and that v0.5 will really be a hit or miss for a lot of people.

I can only recommend that you spend a little more time with it.

      Re: Not happy

I've spent all day trying to fix it and i have to say it sucks.

I love all the new features, like the crew kit for flying, that's neat and adds a new dimension.

But, what have you done with this modification?

I will repeat a statement i said earlier.

"Project Reality is an awesome modification. In 0.4, a few maps crashed to desktop for me, but luckily, i was still able to play Muttrah City, which IMO is the best map in the entire game. If i could only play that map, I'd still play the mod and download the 1.6 GB."

Instead, there are very few maps that actually work.

You guys need to spend more time with this, and make sure it works. The ideas are amazing, the preview video was top but it has been the biggest anti-climax for me.

I have love for your mod, i really do, but it's disappointing and its rivalling the BF 1.3 Patch.

          Re: Not happy

In this release we are using MD5 checksums to crack down on hackers. These will sometimes, even in vBF2 get corrupted and stop the user from playing etc...

This is our first release with md5s in them but most ppl are not having any problems it would apear....

we are sorry to the ones that are thou.

Yes i deleted it all when i got 0.5 , dont get me wrong im in love with the new PLC guns and the us sniper , i just find now you have to go to so much trouble to accualy get in a tank and drive it. After playing it now for 2 hours im feeling alot more happy with it but i still think its been changed to radically.

Sir Tasty I think your overeacting....

              Bugs? Yes.

              Unplayable? Hardly.

Why I say this is because I have literally spent playing the mod the 40 of the last 60 hours since release. And I have not thought it unplayable, although the lag issues and certain maps crashing is kind of annoying, it was amazing playing!

                    Re: Not happy

There are a few issues, but CTD's are very confusing for me.

I have never had a CTD personally, on either one of my PC's. i did however delete my PR folder under BF2/mods/PR before installing the mod. Thats really the only advice im able to give! Im not trying to be patronising, just helpful! If that works, then please write back, as it would be helpful to know.

With regard to the crewman/pilot kits, I can see where people come from.

We used to get very angry at people jumping in a littlebird, and deciding he/she/it will practice flying with 5 squaddies surrounding him, ultimatly ending up with 6 USMC soldiers in the sea.

We thought "How about giving experienced players the ability to fly, stop new players from ruining the game" because vehicles have a longer spawntime. this has backfired slightly, but things will change. Ultimatly, using ABR, we would like to give out certificates using your stats to be able to fly/drive.

I installed PR now on a PC which never had PR on it, still getting CTDs 9 of the 10 times..

The main problem that I can see at the moment with th pilot kits is that, people cannot really practice flying without said people around them. You can host a local server and practice (you need 3 people in your squad) so there are little facilities for people to practice.

Or atleast thats what I see as a problem for most people, that being said, I've been in server that have some very good pilots ferrying troops to where they need to go.

I've enjoyed PR ever since the first public release, but I'm really not sure I like where it is going. These two sentences from a DEV really say a lot. First of all, what the **** did you think would happen with the crewman/pilot kits? How on earth was adding more hoops to jump through going to limit flying to experienced people? Is your opinion of new players to the mod really so low that you think they are too stupid to learn how to request a kit within a round or two? The only good thing is that now the driver/pilot and gunner in helos, tanks, and APC's have to be in the same squad, which is a good way to at least encourage the use of VOIP. But are the kits even necessary to be able to code that?

With regards to the part about using ABR... yeah that's a great idea, lets turn PR into another stat whore paradise. For starters, how are you ever going to earn the stats to fly if you can can't ever get in a vehicle in the first place since you aren't "certified"? Or were you thinking more along the lines of just giving players with higher ABR rankings preference for vehicles? That would be a great slap in the face to people like myself who stopped playing vBF2 long ago because of hating the stats, and who haven't done anything with ABR... again because of hating stats. But of course it is a good way to keep the PR inner circle happy and continue the little circle jerk that you all so enjoy.

I wouldn't really care except that you guys do everything you can to attract new players, but then treat them like dirt when they start playing. On the one hand, it's your mod so do what ever you want with it. But at the same time, why do you still bother hyping your releases outside of your own site? It's getting pretty clear that you are building a game for yourselves, your testers, and about 100 hardcore PR fanbois. It's also pretty clear what you think of new players when you have to go out of your way to try and come up with ways to "stop them from ruining the game", so why even bother publicizing your releases outside of your own site? I promise that if you didn't hype your releases so much, you wouldn't have so many of the worthless noobs that you clearly loathe cluttering your servers and ruining your precious game. You want people to hop on long enough to play and tell you how great the mod is, and then gtfo so the inner circle can go back to playing without any interference from the noobs. (For the record the mod is great, its the layers of BS that you keep heaping on top of it that make it harder and harder to just simply play that are getting annoying.)

One more thing, let me save at least one PR attack dog the time of typing out theirr elitist condescending comment that is sure to follow:

                            KatieWolf will say

I don't see why it's so underused. Is a little reading that hard.
