BSOD system stop / CTD issue playing BF2 1.41

I have been getting a ton of CTD and now BSOD system stops since installing the 1.41 patch. They always happen in game, never on load or connecting to server....nothing specific in game happens either when crash occurs. It is always random when I get the BSOD/CTD and at random times 3min-15min.

I have some what fixed the problem, but not completely!

I was getting pissed/frustrated!!! It started out that I would last about 5 min in any game Vanilla, SF, AF, EF, and then boom CTD. 3 min later I would be back into a game only to crash yet again. After a few CTD then I would get a BSOD system stop page. Have to turn off the computer....reboot...shut down all non-essential processes, load BF2 and 10min be back in the game only to crash yet again in 5-10 min....sigh!!!

    I tried:
    Deleteing BF2 Folder in MyDocs
Deleting all cookies/temp/ temp internet files
    ran Norton Antivir - clean
    ran 3 Anti-Spyware programs - clean
Degragmented the hard drive - was only 5% but I was desperate..lol
    Ran Reg Cleaner
    Updated Punkbuster (PB)
Set PB to 500 in console

    NO LUCK.......

So I updated all my Drivers

(Update ever damn driver on system)
    Chipset
    Graphics
    Sound
    Mouse
    Joystick
    Keyboard
    Headset
    Printer
    Card Reader

BETTER BUT STILL CRASHING BEFORE A SINGLE GAME ENDS, but will go 10-30min!! so it was an impovement

So desperate, I wiped out BF2 from my System and did a fresh install and update patches (I only use full version patches). Took 1/2 day will online downloads of EF and AF ......Still getting CTDs

Still looking for a fix, I Flashed BIOS to the newest beta version (which I hate to use betas), but it seems to have helped even more. Now I can get through 3 or 4 games with out crashing....even played once for 3 hours with no crashs....but still every now and then BOOM.....CTD or BSOD system stop

Microsoft Error Report finally kicked something back, saying I have one program/device/driver that is causing the BSOD system stop! But I have not been able to figure out which one!!! This is probably causing the CTD too, but every driver has now been updated!? No new programs have been installed since 1.4 patch when I was having no CTD/BSOD issues and everyting was fine!! Thanks Microsoft for the detailed message....lmao!!

I guess I am going to have to turn off every driver 1 by 1, which is way to much work, if I want to get to the root of it!!! This is also the family computer so a Format/OS Re-install is not an option at this point!!!

If anyone knows of any specific drivers/devices/programs that causes the BSOD/CTDs on their rig during BF2 please let me know!!!! We can start a thread on know things that cause CTDs!!

    My rig specs:
    Thermaltake Tsunami Case
    ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo
    500W Ultra Connects PS
    AMD FX-55 cpu
    Zalmann Cpu Cooling Fan
2GB RAM - Corsair Platinum 1GB Matched Twins
    ASUS nVidia 6800
    2 -120GB Seagate HDs in RAID0
    SB Audigy Z2 Gamer
7 fans in total keeping the inside cool....since FX-55 has heat issues
    Razer Copperhead 2000dpi mouse
    Saitek Cyborg Evo Joystick
    Platronics 500 USB Headset
Belkin USB Hub - 4 ports
    Generic USB Card Reader
    HP 2610 Printer

Thanks for any input or other possible things to try! Oh....did I miss anything information that you will need to help trouble shoot this one?

Right click My Computer and select Properties, click on the Advanced tab and under Startup and Recovery click Settings. Next uncheck Automatically reboot, and OK your way out.

Next time it BSOD's you should get an error message that says what is causing the problem.

What does the event viewer say?

      Start>Control panel>Administrative tools>Event viewer>Application.

You can check out the others but apps is where you might have some red exclamation marks. Play the game and as soon as it crashes goto event viewer to see if anything pops up there.

The only thing you have missed out is formatting your HD, which probably is the sollution to your problems.

Thanks Stormy....I have adjusted my system as u suggested, so I will see if I get a message on next crash.

Thanks AckAck for reminding me about the EventLogs in Event Viewer....I looked in there but there was no re-occuring error listed....always something different causing App Errors! But I will check it immediately after my next CTD/BSOD!!!!

Thanks for the last gasp choice Doggie52 but a format is not in the near future of this system...way too much software and data on this system for a destructive restore. Besides. it would take too much time to back up my drives, wipe the drives, Reinstall OS, reinstall all drivers, udate drivers (AGAIN!), reinstall all software and games, and add backed up data into proper locations! Because after all that work, if it still got a CTD/BSOD and all that work was for not ....I would probably blow up my computer!!!!

Horray!!!!!! I finally got the answer from Microsoft today!!
The driver at fault is the nVidia n4_disp
The driver causes a loop and the CtD or the BSoD!!!
            Reasons - defective card

oops did not finish above post:
Reasons continued - not proper drivers installed
            - OCd card

card over heating (found this is an issue with the 6800 series) I have 7 fans in my case so I know it should not be overheating or bad airflow!! I might buy the new Zalman V700 GPU fan with heatsinks for video RAM to see if this helps.

I have the lastest drivers and firmware so I know that is not the issue. Im just hoping I do not have to buy a new video card.

Hope this helps others by posting this info!

Hey Kula..... Have you run Memtest 86 yet?... It sounds like a memory issue to me...I remember one of your posts where you mentioned that you couldnt get your XMS latency settings to hold and had major instability problems ...

I have the same sticks in my system and had no problem setting the correct latency of 2-3-3-6...I ran memtest all night afterwards and showed 0 errors.

I had very similar problems a year or so ago with my old system and finally isolated the bad stick ....

My system build is very stable on all counts and runs every game like butter except of course BF2. which is still giving me fits with game stutter........I cant seem to isolate the conflict...like you i THINK ive done just about everything....good luck!!

I didnt finish reading all of your posts...glad you got it figured out!!
