  • New custom build pc. Help me decide.

I am looking to build a gaming pc that will last for many years into the future but I am not sure what components to get. Here is what I am thinking of getting please tell me if they are too expensive or not a good buy:

    Intel core 2 duo E6600 £189.75
    2 x 1gb Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC5400 (667) £128.71
    640MB BFG Technology 8800GTS £285.51
    Asus P5B Deluxe £121.60
600W CoolerMaster iGreen Power Supply £67.13
    80 Gb Western Digital 7200 rpm £28.72
Coolermaster Mystique 631 Black Aluminum Case £65.20
    Total £903.22

Is that motherboard big enough to fit two 8800gts in because I may put an extra one in in the future. Also should I buy a raptor 10000rpm hard drive, what difference would it make? Thanks

Re: New custom build pc. Help me decide.

I am on the verge of pc upgrade and been looking for six months. I go for best bag for sensible buck usually. So waiting for DX10, lower mother board/video cost and OEM vista.

Scan are good for prices. overclock.co.uk can be a little better. Also have a better range that what won me over during last pc build. Less del. cost from one supplier.

From everything I have read (custompc/pc format) overclock a E6300. You only notice difference from the core 2 range when doing things like video encoding. Ignore l2 cache 2mbto 4mb it makes little difference in real world) Upgrade cpu when next gen core 2 comes along. Buy a cpu with out fan and get a aftermarket fan zalman or artic cooling.

Spend the savings on a 1000w PSU for the second card. Enermax won all the latest awards in custom pc psu review this month but expensive.

I would definately look for larger fester HD also. Custompc recommend Hatahci deskstar t7k250. very fast and 250gb. 80gb is a little low for future proofing. Who knows what DX10 games will load like! £45 so little overall difference. (note: you need to enable sata II on it via hitiachis tool)

Nice looking case had not seen that one before, cheap for ali. BUT one 120 fan is not good especially with two 8800s. phong II £50 1x120 1x 140 fans maybe? Pays for disk.

Very Good price for RAM I will have to see if it suits my needs.
