    BF2 freeze upon entering

    Hi!

I have played BF2 happily untill now. I played a couple of days ago and everything worked fine. Yesterday however BF suddenly froze just after entering the game on the weapon/spawn screen. Same thing happend over and over and the sound froze/looped as well. Only thing to do was to crtl+alt+del and wait for the task manager to come up at some point. I noticed there is a red line to the left and at the upper border in the intro sequence when starting the game. There are also graphics errors just after clicking the BF2 icon on the desktop. The strange thing is that I didn't make any changes between the two days - it just stopped working...

    I can confirm:
-MB temp abt 40 degrees, CPU abt 50 and GFX abt 65 degrees at all times
-Have tried manually uninstall the game and reinstall again, including all expansion and booster packs, and ran the updates at the end again
-Tried updating nVidia gfx drivers to newest version
    -Updated Punkbuster
    -Updated directX
-All drivers on my PC are of newest version
    -Windows fully updated
-Game works perfectly in single player mode

    My config is:
    Asus P5B Deluxe
    Conroe Dual Core E6600 2.4
    2 GB Kingston DDRII - 7200
    Club 3D 7950 GTX 512 MB RAM
    Raptor 150 GB

Another strange thing is that after pressing crtl+alt+del and switching to the taskmanager and after that switching back to BF - I can play for abt 2-3 mins with no problems. After that the freezing and the looping begins again and I will have to quit. When it freezes the game seems like it zooms in on the upper left corner of the screen - actually a resolution change. Very strange!

Hope you have any ideas as I feel I have tried everything possible. Would like to avoid having to reinstall Windows yet again.

    Thanks + best regards,

    Man,

    you've covered the bases.

Due to single player working, that eliminates everything except what is related to online. With that in mind, I would suggest going into your CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE tab>DEVICE MANAGER button> Then expand NETWORK ADAPTORS. Right Click on your Ethernet Card and uninstall it. Then go up to the ACTION pulldown menu and execute a SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES and it will reinstall the Ethernet card. Restart and see if this helped. Something in your cards driver may have gotten muffed and you didn't say anything about checking it yet.

Also, do a defrag. After all that disk work, it could clean up other things.

I've had similar problems to Benno, game just freezes in the kit/spawn selection . It's been fine up till now, can't even move cursor. Did re-installing ethernet card drivers work? Was thinking about re-installing game but sounds like that doesn't work. Bring on Quake wars.

Go to Controls in Options and click "Reset to Defaults" or "Defaults". What is happening to you is that your controls got wiped, so BF2 will just hang there waiting for input you can't put in.

            Re: BF2 freeze upon entering

I had the same prob before Benno.
Had to update my motherboard drivers cos I was using the intergrated network ports. So as Simon mentioned, try updating your network adaptor drivers and/or your mb ones.
