Do any servers run old school Bf2, before the nerfs and all.
Surely they'd be unranked but is there any?

Man! I remember that fool! I was wondering back then when BF2 was going to come out and why it was just not released early here. You know the people that showed up first were people that worked at a video game store!

I would love it if you could still run a 1.0 server and it could be ranked. Kinda lame that is some kind of violation. Not like it is a violation to run WindowsXP without SP2.

Yeah, why did they limit the TV range? Does anyone know their reasoning? (besides not having any)

I could be lying but I believe it was done so for competitive playing, and to bring the chopper closer to the STA sites.

            STA sites range- 375 metres
            Chopper TV range- 600/450 metres

OK... I will admit that I never played old school BF2 online. But for 2 months after getting it (God bless Pizza Hut!) I played strictly single player/LAN without patching...I remember looking on in awe at the F-35 JSF in the various videos I had seen...I remember the USS Essex and the Cobra and Blackhawk...and looking at them in awe too (You guessed it...I love flight!). I remember screwing around in the demo by jumping and C4ing, raiding the MEC airfield with 14 Hydra FFARs and destroying both the MiG-29 and Su-34 in one go...I remember hopping in a Blackhawk and switching to the gunner position, taking out every other vehicle on the USS Essex with the minigun...I remember not knowing how crap the F-35 would handle on ground...point up at 0 velocity and you WILL point up. () And then crashing, because of that, into the USS Essex bridge...This game really appealed to me back then. And that was only in June 2006. Now the game has been ruined by stat-whores, n00bs (but not newbies), Karkand (and don't tell me to go play another server because there are none), n00bs tking for jets, nade spam, arrogant players...and what could've been the best game on Earth was ruined...

We got too good at baseraping and f*cking people up using the TV while staying out of visual distance, so they "intervened" in order to appease the nublets.

I had fun dolphin diving and knifing entire squads :P

C4 is kinda useless now, huge delay switching between C4 and Detonator.

Hell yeah! I loved what is now known as "Flag Hopping" in an transport helicopter (which can`t hit anything with their guns since patch x.yz) with a good organised squad...

it was probably a good idea they took it out. raping is one thing. but raping from 6-700 meters is a wholllleeee nother story

I still think it was done more for competitive play. An AA vehicle would spawn, and then blow up. It's still not hard to rape with a chopper. Just more exciting.

I'll agree that it takes a lot more teamwork and coordination (communication) to neutralize a chopper with 650 meter TV missiles. Naturally, failure to eliminate it can lead to a lot of frustration... hence the nerf.

It was fun while it lasted, though!

They have bf2pro for competative play.

                            only 4 tv missiles.

I remember when the Battlefield series (1942/DC) was played for the fun of the game (maps, vehicles, weapons etc..) Nowadays, most people play BF2 and 2142 to gain meaningless points, ranks etc.. pathetic
I also remember when DICE used to release decent patches (true story) and listened to the community by balancing the game, fixing bugs and adding free content.

You mean like, when no one had a good enough pc to run it properly?

                                ..

                                I didn't even have a dedicated GPU
