can i host and play a unranked bf2 server if im not behind a router and have a direct connection to internet?

Yes, but not very large. Usually with a strong broadband, you can only play with three others max.

I REALLY wouldn't recommend it. You need one hell of a PC to do it, and even then it'll struggle. But if you're on an OC48 line and have 4 E6600s and 2 8800GTXs, with 8GB RAM, go for it

Woah... take it EZ there man. You basically need 10MBiT upload and maybe 2GB RAM, you wont need any good GFX card for a server. You will also need a good processor.

He said he wants to host AND play at the same time, and in my experience, doing that is an absolute ***** unless you have a good PC. Yes, I exaggerated, but it's not exactly possible with a normal PC & connection.

I've done what he asks. It's fun for 10 minutes, but it is soooo much easier finding an empty server to goof on.
