    Local IP Connection

I have searched, but couldnt find anything related to my issue.

Problem: I cannot connect to my friends local IP address (through Join Local) so we can practice alone on BF2. After I type in his IP address and hit connect, it says "You failed to connect. Please check your check your network connections and try again". Both of our firewalls were turned off. Is this a port issue?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Marty

    Re: Local IP Connection

Sorry don't know exact solution to your problem, but LAN games may not show or allow connections outside. If I'd be you, I'd make a dedicated online (no public though) server and connect directly to it.

And it might be (and most likely is) a port forwarding issue. If your friend has a local network at his home he'll need corresponding ports forwarded to his computer through the router. If his network properties show anything but his external ip it won't work without some sort of forwarding, may it be DMZ or what ever

Your friend has to create a server (preferrably passworded). Then you log into that server. This is for the multiplayer game with just the two of you on one map.

I'm not sure that the 'join by ip' in the 'join local' screen works. If you are on the same local network you shouldn't need to use join by ip; you should be able to see the server in the browser. The exception to this would be if you want to play with bots and you are running a version older than 1.3 that doesn't have co-op mode and needs to join an SP game as a workaround. If you aren't on the same network then you'll need to use the 'join internet' screen (and the server should probably be passworded as |CBW|Simon noted).
