A few years ago, Command and Conquer: Renegade was released. I bought it thinking that it was like regular C&C, and rts except that you could play as a soldier in addition to building a base. It turned out to pretty much suck. You couldn't build a base or vehicles or anything, you just fought in what was basically a crappy fps.
I think that had the game been what I thought it was, it would have been awesome. Its my opinion that BF2 is an excellent fps and that the original command and conquer was the best rts. I think a sweet *** game would be something that combined them both.
The commander in bf2 is basically useless. But if he could build base defenses and vehicles to be manned by players on the ground, he wouldn't be. Instead of losing tickets if your team has less bases, you should get money for your commander to spend on assets for you team if you have more bases. There are plenty of variations that could be put into a game like this, and depending on the teams commanders, individual rounds in the same map would all be unique. Commanders could build a wall at certain points to slow down vehicles.... or maybe one team destroys the vehicle manufacturing site and the enemy commander is forced to spend a ton of money to rebuild it. Instead of spawn times for vehicles and a bunch of people just waiting and tking each other, if your team was doing well, then the commander would have more money and could be churning out vehicles and giving them to the teamplayers that deserve them rather than the vehicle whores of bf2.
sound like a fun game to anyone?
