Downing a chopper w jet guns

    Allright,

I'm trying to learn to gun a chopper out of the sky with my j10 / f35 on wake. Ideally, I'd like to learn to kill it in one go. However, my main problem at the moment is that I somehow can't get a steady aim on the choppers as I overshoot a lot as I'm correcting with my JS (a logitech extreme pro). So I'm wondering what will help:
    - Which sensitivity settings to use ?
    - Which deadzone settings to use ?
    - What jet speed to use
    - Will a diff JS make a difference (could it be Logitech extreme pro related ?)

Or is the best gain simply to be had by just practising a lot ?

    try my setings :
    x-axis
    sens 60
    deadzone 3
    range 100

    y-axis
    sens 60
    deadzone 3
    range 100

    throttle
    sens 100
    deadzone 30
    range 100

    twist
    sens 85
    deadzone 0
    range 60

eany other propositions? and why ?

Tweaking your joystick settings could definitely help.. but in addition to that, alot of those 1 pass kills on choppers depend on your attack direction and angle relative to your target (plus where those bullets are hitting to some degree)

I think the general consensus is that you ideally want to cut your throttle to 75-80% power and come in on the chopper from directly behind (as he is heading away from you) in order to give you the maxium time to line up and unload on him; lead the stream and hold it directly on him (I've also heard aiming for the front half / ****-pit area causes max damage) and he should be toast within a couple of seconds. The trick is to stream him and inflict as much damage as possible before he knows he's under attack (because once he starts evasives, he'll be alot harder to kill in that single pass you're looking for)

I have mine all set to Deadzone 0 - Sens 100% and love it

aim for the cockpit and if you cant see that (say your coming from behind) try and nail the engine just under the rotors. i've been improving alot in this area of flying quite recently. and what ever you do dont go into missile mode

i would say go into missile mode but only if u got him smoking and ur really close so u can jus switch the missile and fire - practice this and ull be able to take out tanks with aa missiles when u got no bombs left

Hmmmm... It sounds like you might not be used to flying the jets yet, keep in mind most of the people who kill jets in one pass have been flying for quite a while. You just have to fly alot with the settings you like and practice strafing stationary targets first, over, and over, and over at nauseum until you can hit a spot on the ground no bigger than an AA position until it blows up, then maybe try tanks and cars. Do this in an empty server until you feel you got it down, then go into another server and try playing, you should notice you get a little better with your guns.

As for hitting the helo in one pass, once you start aiming for any glass part of the helo youll notice it goes up like a roman candle, doing this in one pass is not difficult at all, and prefferably you dont want to have a missle lock on him, your warning him of impending death when you do that, let him get comfortable while you blast him, picture your attack run before you do it, look behind you and take an extra second to line your self up properly. KIlling them in one pass takes skill and a steady hand as well as a little short term planing on attack pattern.

Try the above drill in an empty server, then go live fire, its much easier than trying to learn while being shot, personally I found learning things for jets is alot easier if you focus on one part at a time instead of the whole thing all at once and then, almost by magic, it all comes together. Let me know how it works out for ya.

I can take a helicopter out in one pass most of the time and I use mouse and keyboard, its really not that hard, lead the target and as mobb and others said aim for the cockpit, alot of times Id be shooting at its tail and Id feel like hes not even taking demage, if you aim at the right place you can take it out in 2-3 seconds

I used to make a local server and blow stuff up on the carrier with the machine gun, I noticed that its very important to get in the right position before you start shooting, if you start shooting first then it can get confusing

theres no need to rush coz all it really takes to blow it up is a few seconds and dont slow down when chasing a chopper, I hate pilots who do that, it does give you extra time but it also makes you look like a noob

and ur an easy target for choppers

Maximum sensitivity with 5% deadzones = win.

You want to come from the side and aim for the torso, you can down him in half a second if you hit the right spot.

Re: Downing a chopper w jet guns

Come at them from their 4 o' clock/8 o' clock and lead the cockpit just a little bit, and the bullets will hit the cockpit killing them really fast (like 1-2 seconds).

Keep in mind what mobb said.. If you see a chopper, don't just engage it. If you see a chopper, look at what direction he's going, and how fast. Picture where he will be by the time you get into attacking position, and when you turn around, you should be at a good angle to shoot at the cockpit.

NEVER use missles on choppers, and never go into missle mode.. it is a complete waste.. You don't need to use missles on choppers.. It's way too random and it makes the pilot try to evade you... most of the time they pull straight up into and then call you a noob. So don't do that.

Also DO NOT cut your speed.. I hear about a ton of people suggesting this, and even good pilots who do this.. don't do it.

First off, the more speed you have, the faster you can react to the choppers movements, because the faster you are going, the more sensitive your controls are.

Another thing, NEVER, NEVER, come from straight on.

If it is a good chopper crew, you will get TV'd.

Even if they don't attempt to TV you, they will know you are trying to kill them, and start evading.

The whole point is, you want to come from behind them, but still have a good shot on their cockpit. You don't want to be straight behind them.

If you really start getting good at it you can start taking them out on right angles (come straight from the left/right side), but it's better if there is a little angle involved because you don't have to lead as much.

Re: Downing a chopper w jet guns

Slow down to kill a helo, and I guarantee I will be hot on your @$$ lighting you up with jet guns only causing you in the jet to be a victim also. As for the helo facing you, you can follow a couple of different tactics, I personally take note of this and come back around but I pitch the nose up a bit to gain some altitude to come down on them instead of horizontal. The vertical attack is my preference for killing helos since they nature of their flight forces them to stay horizontal to the ground and I can still nail the canopy.

If the pilot turns to face me he just exposed the entire canopy to me, I usually just hear the poof sound an exploding helo makes, as I fly by the wreckage. Whatever anyone tells you, the tv missle is NON factor when attacking the helo, if it does ever kill you it will be once, maybe twice and only if you cut your throttle or there is some other ridiculous extenuating circumstance. Bottom line, the window you have between enemy jet spawns is ample time to find and kill the enemy attack helo, kill it with gusto and only the caution of ramming or hitting his wreckage heres the cliff notes if you need them:

                          - Never ever, ever, ever, ever cut your throttle as a standard rule of engagement, there are very rare circumstances but dont even consider for this.

                          - Plan your attack pattern, visualize where you will be and where he will be, use your rear view for this.

                          - Dont use your missle lock, use your guns for helos, missles are a waste for so many reasons I dont know where to begin. If you do use the lock use it to spot the helo very quickly, the minute it tones, turn it off as not to alert the helo, use this when hes trying to hide amongst the terrain.

                          - Dont fly under the helo as a general rule if you can help it, wreckage falls down, wreckage + plane = U DED.

                          - Down the jets first, one of the most common ambush spots is when you go for the enemy attack helo, you might get taken out for just not staying focused on your objectives.

                          - if you cant hit a car on the ground or a stationary AA position you will not hit a helo effectively. Practice on an empty server each skill you want to improve at SPECIFICALLY and individually. You have a hell of alot of catch up to play because there is already a well established pilot comunity in this game and it is hard to learn in the 30 second window where you take off, attempt to bomb and a seasoned pilot is waiting for you and takes you out.

I suggest you read the topic in the forums regarding jet question and answer and read it, there are some good questions already asked and answered there.

All you need to do is slow down and make sure you throttle after the kill so you don't crash.
