    Massive map loading times

Didn't use to have a problem with loading maps at all - my core 2duo and 7900gtx loaded them really fast. Recently though BF2 has taken to taking about 5-7 minutes to load each map (usually but not always), by which time the server often disconnects me for idling. It loads normally up to 48%, then edges reeeeally slowly up to 62%, where it sticks for a few minutes before loading normally again. I have no idea why it's started doing this.

Also another minor problem (I think this one has only started since i used the method of getting the game widescreen) is that every now and then BF minimises. THis isn't much of a problem, but it has caused one or two chopper deaths...

    Thanks

ahhh the good old 62%, have you changed your video card drivers latly? that can cause a long loading also defrag and i find if i deleted my BF2 folder it not only clears up a bit of space but can have a slight effect on loading time but be carefull with this due to it will delete your user name and password so make sure you remember then and change your video setting as soon as you get back into BF2

Is there any way to get rid of the 62% freeze? My PC hangs on it for a minute, whizzes through everything else, but the second it gets there it freezes for a minute or so. I'm also getting minimising, but that's to do with Zonealarm stealing focus.

clear out the cache folders, in My Docs\Battlefield 2

it should only stop at 62% for a while once as its re-optimizes everything after that each loading should be faster, if not then theirs something wrong

video card drivers also effect the 62% freeze, find someone with the same card and see what drivers they are running for best performance

OK thanks guys, I'll try some of these out... (any idea why in my case it's not just sticking at 62%, it's also crawling from 48% to 62%?)

Because your vid cache and logo cache are probably maxed out or nerfed. Dumping them and letting it re-opt the vid will probably help you out immensely as will the defrag and possible reload of the vid driver.

I've cleared out the shader cache so many times it's a joke, it doesn't help anything. But sometimes something happens and I get a nice boost in FPS (i.e. how it was meant to be in the first place) then BF2 decides I'm having too much fun and "re-optimizes" them and *bam* - poor grass textures and equally poor FPS.
