Game launch error

Hello all

I tried to start up BF2 this evening and it will not run. I get the splash screen on the desktop and then it goes away. After that my PC does nothing. I go to task manager and BF2 is running as a process but I am still at desktop and their is no icon on my taskbar for BF2. I installed Generals aswell too see if it was just a BF2 related problem and that does exactly the same thing. I can read music CD and DVDs so I know thats OK. I tried adware scan, virus scan, system restore and re-installing vid card drivers but no luck yet.

Strange one eh?!?!?!? Any ideas?!?

Is this the first time you used BF2? What graphics card are you using?

The exact thing is happening to me, as well. I've had this game for +6 months. I click on th bf2 icon, black screen comes up like it's going to start, then wavy screen to desktop.
I have Nvidia GeForce FX 5600XT AGP (lol)
but bf2 has been running smoothly for me except this morning:hmm:

-EDIT- Found the problem. in bf2/mods/bf2 there was an objects_client.zip file from a different mod lol

Titan, did you ever edit the game at all?

Nope, I made no changes. It was working fine and now its like this. Happens with other games too. CD drive spins up and but the game does not load even though its running as a process.

hmmm,, did this happen with other games before today, or just today your cd drive is being retarded?

Reinstalling vid drivers? Did you download the newest version of them from Nvidia? try that if not.

Also, clear your vid cache.
go here.
C:\Documents and Settings\YourLogin\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

And dump everything within the CACHE folder.

restart game and see if it works.

If not, you can remove the entire BF2 folder from your MY DOCUMENTS folder and let the game create a new one. Sometimes this fixes it.

And yes, it could just be a broken CD too. Try playing a music one and seeing if it works.
