    CTD in XP X64bit

Before BF2 would freeze at the main menu when I browsed thru options to change them and I wasn't able to play on a server because it would always freeze before. So then I reinstalled BF2/1.41 patch and was able to play for like 15min on a server but then it would just CTD. All my driver are up to date with SP2 on Windows Xp Pro X64bit edition. I just got a DFI nF4 SLI-DR Expert installed it with X64. Please help me fix this.

    My Specs:
    AmdAthlon64 4000+
    DFI nF4 SLI-DR EXPERT
    2gigs Corsair select
    2 WD 160GB in Raid0
    evga 7800GT pcix16
    X-fi Xtreme music
    XP Pro X64bit edition/Sp2 and directX9c

dont use 64bit maybe? whats ur paging file set to? right click "my computer," go to properties, advanced tab at the top, under the performance box click the settings button, then the advanced tab at the top, and on the bottom where it says "virtual memory," how much does it say?

        You can't "not use 64-bit".

Check the virtual memory, although BF2 on high settings and everything only takes up 800MB, leaving 1.2GB for the rest, meaning that no paging should be required (well, actually not..).

As for Supermario, how much RAM have you got? I'd up it just in case, but you will NOT see a performance increase because virtual memory is stored in the HDD - i.e. as opposed to retrieving data from files on the HDD, it will retrieve data from the page file - on the HDD, but that data has to be paged into there first. You might see an increase if you have a heavily fragmented hard disk, but that's your fault for not defragging.

as a matter of fact you can ""not use 64-bit"" by installing 32 bit windows instead

                Re: CTD in XP X64bit

I know its not a memory issue because i can play other games such as Oblivion and Cstrike for hours with no freezes or crashing so its BF2 but what?

What is the order of installaion of all the drivers and patches?
I installed my nForce chipset driver 1st then graphix with directx 9 from windows update , BF2 with Dx9 and then everything else like soonds and mouse. Maybe BF2 installed over my other directx and corrupted it?

Yes, that's a very plausible "fix" despite the fact that BF2 works perfectly on 64-bit AND Vista

                  @Supermario

You won't get much performance increase, check how much memory is being used in Task Manager. I have about 400MB of crap in memory when idle (read: firefox, and a zillion scanners in the background) and adding BF2's 800MB package still leaves me a further 800MB - no paging is going on (2GB here too).

Like I said, it's only a matter of how much to allocate, I use 4096MB to stay away from those "out of memory" messages, but I originally had it at 1536MB. I'm sure you could disable the page file and still run BF2 on high settings.

As I said, it will not have any increase in performance except with fragmenting.

I was merely suggesting it, and yes, I know it works perfectly on vista and xp 64 bit, since ive been testing vista since it was in beta 1. but, if he cannot find another fix for it, it would make sense to not use 64 bit for bf2
