    AH TV missle = hard.

Alright, so I tried being a gunner last night, I told the guy I've only been a gunner once and I never had to actually use the TV and he said that was fine.

How the hell do you get good at that thing? Like I can't expect to pick it up ASAP but damn, I can't hit crap with it I click and screen flys around and it's.....it's ****ing hard is what it is  Stupid TV missle.

I need practice, like a lot, but any tips? Or where whould I attempt to hit? Or should I expect/wait for my pilot to line me up? Should I take the shot if he/she doens't line me up?

Lol, I know what you mean, I spent almost a year playing and not knowing you could guid them by repeatedly clicking

I can hit ground targets 8/10 times, but anything in the air, it's more like 1/12 - but hey, I'd rather ground pound so meh.

      Scort.

Always wait for your pilot to line up the shot properly if possible, no question.

Taking a TV shot without a proper line up is a waste (unless you're skilled enough to compensate) and could cost you a death if you're caught off-guard during a reload by an enemy helo or mobile AA, etc; again, always best to wait for the pilot to provide you with a decent shot.

Also, the further away from the target, the more time you will have to correct your aim as the missile is inbound (this can be good, or bad, depending on your target) Ideally, your pilot will also position you in such a way that your missile will be free of obstacles (i.e. higher altitude, nose down angle, to avoid trees or hills that might interfere with your shot, relative to your target)

Lastly, if you can, try to squad up and use VOIP with your pilot; it will make you 10x more effective as a team if you can communicate during the fight.

Take a chopper on a solo map (like either Ghost town or Kubra Dam) and land it on the edge of a roof or the landing pad where the one spawns on the dam. Aim it outwards and just start shooting the tv missle. practice practice practice and you will get better. At first, it's a stress nightmare and I don't advise you jump into a chopper that obviously has a tandem team already just because you got to it first.

There are excellent guides and vids on being the pilot and gunner here:
          ArmyDr Vids

and a great guide in the tips section:
          BE the Gunner

As well as a heck of a lot of great pilots with guides and advice on these forums.

Some pilots (like me) expect you to shoot the missile whenever possible, even if that means to shoot it without proper line up. You can always compensate...

In chopper dogfights, while I do barrel rolls with the chopper, I try to give you a partial line up, and that should be enough for you to shoot and hit him.

How hard can it be? I can hit most helos.

Still working on jets though =( never had a good enough pilot.

                excellent answer...but...
to be 100% honest in no way will single player TV missle shots on single player every compare to mutiplayer.
Just like the guns and such are incredible on single player so is TV missling.
On single player I can pick ground troops off with the TV missle easy as pie, but once you jump into mutiplay youll notice a bit of choppyness and such.

To be completly honest as long as you "try" on mutiplayer it shouldnt be a problem. Just dont steal a seat from guys that are good. If you notice your team has guys that can somewhat gun, then take your chance...dont steal a good gunners seat and chance to help your team. Ive had many gunners not guide the missle or not even use it...they suck..
Now a guy that is trying and missing here and there...thats acceptable IMO.

those videos are a good way for a nub to learn and even for the avg pilot to learn to circle a flag and not fly right at it. i dont like the dudes solo'ing tho.

Re: AH TV missle = hard.

I'd the same problem when I started using the TV:
dealing with ground was good, with air though, I sucked big time.

As others said already, communication is the key, dont underestimate it's value.
If you dont/cant communicate, try to keep your look forward as this is the only direction your pilot can see. He might line you up for an enemy chopper while you are trying to gun a sniper to your left on the ground.

                    Spot! Spot! Spot!
Most important against enemy choppers in close dog fighting!
You might turn around and see him, your pilot will not.

Dont try to click frantically, concentrate, aim and click, try to lead.
Dunno how to describe it, but this helped me a lot in the beginning. TV goes very fast and most ppl just click like hell and miss. Dont do that.
                    Stay cool and concentrate.

Also dont shoot to early acting overhasty, wait for the right moment:
he's coming out of a roll, your pilot's lining you up etc.
Try to shoot from distance as you have more time to aim and adjust the missle.
When you miss, first check if the other chopper/target noticed. Sometimes they dont.
                    Stay cool and concentrate.
Wait for your TV to reload and try again.

The TV needs 8 sec to reload.
So in a chopper duel, between two TV shots, when you're using your gun, count the seconds and switch fast for another TV shot. If both gunners are skilled, often the one who shoots first get the kills.
Again communication is important! If your pilot doesnt know about your plan, he wont line up (in time) and you get owned. Depending on your VOIP tool, you might want to consider the 1-2sec delay (thus tell him before you switch, not after).

                    PS
Try to read Strega's Chopper Guide Being A Gunner.
It's really good and complete - and the 'dirty' version is funny as hell!

Don't fire unless your pilot has lined you up , otherwise you end up all over the place trying to hit the target.

Not single player, compeltely solo. Make a local server and play alone. This only gives you the general feel for the controls and lets you waste a few missles without possibly driving a pilot crazy.

Re: AH TV missle = hard.

always wait until your pilot somewhat lines you up. dont shoot unless your target is at lease close to the middle box on the TV aiming screen.

also, dont click frantically. stay calm and try to only click a few times. the more you click, the less accurate you will be. chances are better for a hit if you click just a few times rather than clicking so fast that you dont even know where you are aiming. (like when you are sniper and you have your pistol out trying to kill a support guy that is unloading his clip on you).

try to determine which way your target is going to move. meaning, look at the surroundings and see what might cause your taret to move and which way it would cause your target to move. this helps a lot when leading. if your target is moving, try to determine its speed and which way it will most likely go. this helps so that you know how far you will have to lead your target. if your target is not moving, aim right at it. just prepared to change your missles direction, but remember, DONT CLICK FAST.

communication is also one of the most import parts of being in an attack chopper. make sure you are telling your pilot everything you see and where it is. try to tell him the most threatening targets first. meaning what would kill you. if there is nothing that could possibly kill you, then take out the target that would most likely kill your teammates. tell your pilot when you are shooting and where at all times. also tell him if your gun is overheated and if your TV missles are reloading.

also you should definetly watch the Army Dr. videos that have a link above in one of the other posts.

                          i hope this helps!
