buying new hdd

hey guys, i currently have a 7200 rpm 20 gig ide hard drive. i would like to buy a new one, preferably sata. the cheapest fastest one there is. anyone have any suggestions. also, 80 gb max. i dont need that much space

Ive had good luck with Seagate and WD. Never tried a Hitachi (well, at least in the last 15 years).

You should get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250 HD. It is the same price as those 80gb ones, so why not.

I just bought two of these for an array (haven't gotten around to striping them and putting Windoze on them yet, though--that's a weekend project):

I ran some large file transfers on them when I got them just to make sure everything was hunkydory. They are fast, quiet, single platter drives. They've got all the right specs:
8mb cache, ncq, and they use the same "perpendicular recording technology" that seagate employs, although they call it something different.

Seagate drives have a five year warranty versus Samsung's 3-year, though, and their customer support is better from what I understand.
