DirectX error in vista

Hi...

A day ago I got a error with bf2 in vista, the game complains me not having dx9c. Vista contains dx10 and it's backwards compatible, but obviously the game doesn't regognize it. However, the game has worked before and I have played it for atleast 3 months. I've no idea how I got this error, I haven't installed anything significant in a while. I didn't get help from EA support.

What I've tried:

Reinstalling latest ATI-drivers
Reinstalling bf2 + 1.41
Xp compatiblity mode

i'm running bf2 on vista as well, and i know it is hard to find help for these problems.

i didnt have the same problem as you, but there is a "hidden" vista update that i had to search for in order to get my card to run bf2 correctly.

If you go to the windows update window it may say that there are no significant updates or w/e, but there might be an extra update there that you have to choose to update. it solved all my video problems, but i have an nvidia card, and my problem is far different than yours, but wth give it a try. if there is an update there that u dont have you should prolly get it anyways.

btw, does bf2 still work even tho it gives u an error, like its just whining or something, then i might say to just ignore it

Hi, thanks for you answer :)

There aren't any hidden updates in windows update, maybe they were just for nvidia :/

When I start the game, it's just a black screen and I hear the notification sound (the beep) and it doesn't go anywhere. I get away from there by pressing esc, but pressing windows key + tab I saw the error that was in the background and shut down the same time bf2 closed. So kinda weird error :/

And btw, 2142 demo works! (and all other games like cod2!)
So wtf is going on?

ya, that is strange, but most things that go wrong with pc's are. all i can say is to just download dx 9c.if that doesnt work just post again, or google it.gl

also, do u run it as administrator?(in right click menu)

I have now UAV turned off so it's running everything as administrator...
I have tried installing dx9c but it just says all components are up to date or something like that.

Have you got the latest Vista drivers for everything? Are you running 64-bit Vista?

The game should never complain about this sort of thing, which is what I don't get.

Yes, my vista has latest drivers for everything... and its 32bit and as I said, it worked before.

its not that hard to do, but considering ive reformatted 3 times in the past 2 weeks, dont complain lol

By any chance, is ur Vista cracked? If so, some Vista's that are "Cracked" don't always work well, or have some missing features.

Best bet, screw Vista for about 1-2months. Run XP, and you'll be good. Vista needs some major work, PLUS. Vista does not do good with games...

Read .. "maximum PC" and "PC Mag" and others.. they say Vista is horrible with games.

ya i heard bout that to, that games run 10% - 15% slower in vista. But my xp disc is scrtched up and all the versions and trials that i have downloaded keep getting an error during installation. it cant seem to copy any of the xml files over. I'll prolly repost this in a new thread.

I'm waiting for new drivers from ATI and asus and if they don't work my last resort is formatting. I have a lot software installed and installing them back and backuping my important files would be a lot of work.
