I absolutely loath 2142 and I am glad that It hasn't stolen too many players form BF2. w00t!

Lets hope Quake Wars does a better job at a futuristic war game.

Hmm, that's interesting. I think that 2142 will advance fast on that list and go up to BF2's minute count within 9 months or so.

I thought 2142 NEVER, EVER beat BF2 in minutes played, server count or player count.
Give it 9months? LOL, you have QW, Armed Assult and Front lines coming during that time. If 2142 didn't beat BF2 during the holidays, then it never will.

Any mod that gives a front line soldier nothing but a pistol (AT KIT) isn't worth downloading IMO it was a very poor design decision. And the saddest thing is i was looking forward to project reality being released since i first saw it advertised on the front page of this website BEFORE bf2 was released.

In the USMC (not the army) guys who carry the predator AT weapon only get a pistol. They get a guy beside them for defence but the pistol is only a defence weapon. If you have downloaded the latest version of PR (0.4) you will notice we have light AT kits and these guys carry around a assault rifle, and a disposal rocket launcher (apart from the RPG-7, thats more of a place holder for the mo).
Also the Heavy AT kit with the predator is a limited request kit now as the power of them has been boosted up to a much more realistic damage rate so they will kill tanks in one or 2 shots.

Also the pistol can still kill ppl, 1 shot to the head with any weapon and they are dead. It is a defence weapon, the Heavy AT player is ment to rely on his squad mates to protect him and not engage in battle unless a tank comes rolling along.

Project Reality is made for realistic, team play, or as near to it as we can get with the engine we have. Unlike BF2 that is just designed to be a arcade style gameplay can hardly be called a mans game to be honest.

Project Reality may be a "man's game" (that spot is reserved by Duke Nukem, however :p), but every gamer is a kid at heart, and some are just... kids.

I can see BF2 having a much longer play life then 2142. 2142 is already futuristic, very little you can do to be more futuristic then futuristic now.
Can see people modelling other futuristic objects that do much different then what is already out there. BF2 you can model other existing tangible assets for the next few years,etc....

To be blunt 2142 seems to be a supermod of BF2 for the sole purpose of generating additional revenue. Didnt make sense to build a game with the complex award system, rabid mod building community, 2-3 expansions, just to see people jump ship for something slightly different when 2142 came out. Vast majority of BF2 players probly dont even have 2/3 of their medals yet.

It did, for a short while. I remember checking Xfire gameplay minutes, and I usually do that when I log on to Xfire, just out of curiosity. Bf2142 did lead in that leaderboard. Not by much, but still enough to be called a solid lead.
