When you installed BF2 did you install the voip option? Are you plugged into a soundcard, or onboard? Have you used it outside of bf2 to make sure that it isn't globally fubar?

If you want help, don't be disrespectful. Keep it to one thread.

You need to have full-duplex sound (card or onboard). This means you can input (mic) and output (headphones/speakers) sound at the same time. A way to see if you have full-duplex sound is to play a MP3 track and at the same time record your voice through Windows Sound Recorder (Accessories > Entertainment) via the mic. If Sound Recorder doesn't playback anything it recorded you may not have full-duplex sound.

Also check you have the cables plugged in correctly and the in-game settings to allow for VOIP. Plus make sure you mic input settings in your audio drivers are set to high and check your Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices settings (under Volume > Advanced) that your Line In and Mono In isn't set to Mute.
