    game/computer freezes in main menu

Hey I just got Battlefield 2 today. I've played it before and it's a great game. i installed it and ran the game. But after the movie plays, and the screen pops up that asks if you want to play online or single player. My game freezes and i can't click on either option. I Don't think it would be my computer and the CD looks fine. Here are the specs on my computer
    AMD 3400+
    1gig of ram
    80g hd
    radeon 9250 256 ram

    Any ideas?

Edit: I keep geting this error that pops up:

VPU recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.

Also I was thinking of replaceing my radeon 9250 with this:

Nice card. EA prefers NVidia chip sets.

See about updating or rolling back your Catalyst drivers for the vid card.

Did you already install the 1.41 update?

Hey I do have updated drivers for my video card. My friend's card also isn't on there but he's been playing bf2 for a while now. I started the new update and it was going to take a while so i stopped it. I'll download it tonight tho (do you think that could be the problem)? Thanks for the help so far.

Edit: I installed the new update. It didn't seem to help!

I've read that updates to DIVX, Sound card drivers and in your case, possibly disabling the movies may help. Check to insure you have all or most of the general Windows updates for the heck of it too.

Divx and sound card you can handle. To disable all the movie crap, go to

        C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies

Create a new folder in there. Move all the files into the new folder.

Dice, EA, Intro, Legal, menu, menu_loggedin and welcome biks should be all the files you are moving into the new folder..

I disabled the movies and that didn't seem to help. Also after i click to open the game. After the battlefield 2 logo comes up, the screen goes black and then like refreshes and flashes. Could it be something with the CD? I'm dieing to get this game working! Thanks for the help. I'll try and update my sound drivers too.

Well if your friends card is not your card, and if you have tried different catalyst drivers, I think your card is on the no fly list (and I'm sorry).

Re: game/computer freezes in main menu

When the computer locks up on the login page this can sometimes be down to your connection refusing to allow EA Master servers from communicating to your machine. If you have a firewall i suggest port forwarding.

I do not used ATI cards, but ask around for the most stable ati drivers for your card.

I'm bias. I hate ATI with a passion and have no forgiveness in my heart for their past deeds. The card will be strong enough to run BF2.

Look into Tonic's suggestion on port forwarding and Firewalls. It is a good possibility as well.

As of today, the card is out of stock. Are there any other recomendations for a decent card around $110? Thanks for the help and i'll look into port forwarding.

i disabled my firewall and tryed to run it. The same thing happened. Bf2 frooze, then crashed. Everytime I try and run it, My computers resolutions gets re-set and my computer gets really laggy.

Nvidia and BFG are a great combo and BFG has a lifetime warranty.

omg, dont any of you read! As of v1.2 the 9250 cannot run the game.

Also, he has agp NOT pci-e. So, for around $100 the best card to get would be the X1650 pro agp. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102057

You do not have pci-e! The 9250 was only made in AGP and PCI versions.

Yeah your right, my radeon 9250 is pci. I also have a PCI expressx16 slot.
