still won't start up....

After release of 1.41, I was able to play for about a week or two without much problem, a couple CTD's no big deal. But after the last one, the game would not start back up. It's been a few months now and I still can't get the game past the splash screen.
I've download & updated everything I've been recommended to update, windows updates, directX, divX, video card drivers (deleted old before installing new), sound card drivers, full patch 1.41,....what else is there & what else could I do to be successful in getting past the splash screen?

Sony PCV-RZ44G
P(4) 2.8GHz
512 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS 512MB (had Nvidia GeForce FX5200)
WindowsXP Media Center 2004

Personally, I'd call it quits on repair. Go for a complete uninstall. Then reinstall everything again. It's the only sure fire way to be certain all corrupted files have been replaced.

There are threads regarding how to do a complete clean uninstall on these forums. If you can't find them, ask and I think I can get the EA Support site one for you easily enough.

Complete uninstall of Windows or just BF2?
My next move was to wipe my entire system clean and start completely over.
Damned underwear gnomes!!
My magic nose goblins must've been no match for them.

Once every year or so, usually after some catastrophic failure, I like to completely reinstall windows and such from scratch so I'm never against that option if you have the time. I do believe that only the BF2 need be reinstalled though, unless you are having many non-bf2 related issues happening.

If you haven't built one yet, a nice present to yourself is an XP installer disk that already has SP2 and other upgrades built in.

Refresh rates most likely. Sometimes the nVidia drivers decide to piss you off and load up with defaults (if you hold CTRL at startup which I tend to do for other reasons).
