Microphone Works, then after 2 mintues stops

    Hey there guys,

Im having the problem of my mic working fine when i join a game, i can send and receive communication but after 2 minutes it just turns off. I cant use my mic, and i cannot hear anyone else either. Its really annoying because im trying to play PR which requires a tight group, but obviously this is hard without a mic!

    my computer is
    AMD 64 3000+
    MSI nForce K8N Neo 3
    etc etc

i do use onboard sound, but ive never had a problem before using it. I have recently reformatted so the only thing i can think of is upgrading the motherboard drivers.

If anyone can help that would be awesome,

    cheers

It's a sound problem. Which on board sound would have been nice in your post.

    You have Audio
    • 7.1 channel audio codec RealTek ALC850.
    - Compliance with AC97 v2.3 Spec.
    - Meet PC2001 audio performance requirement.

So from the tech support area at EA you will find

    Question
Why does VOIP become disabled during gameplay?

    Answer
On systems with the onboard Realtek AC97 sound device, the VOIP functionality may become disabled during gameplay. When this occurs, the VOIP option becomes unchecked and cannot be rechecked while in the sound menu until you disconnect from the current game.

This is due to a hardware compatibility issue. Adjusting your hardware acceleration or updating your drivers may help resolve this issue. If it does not, you will need to disconnect and reconnect from the game in order to restore VOIP functionality.
    Regarding the adjusting hardware accelleration
Often time sound distortions or repetitive glitches can be the cause of a bigger problem. Sound driver conflicts can be linked to not just sound distortions and glitches but random and specific crashes during a game. You can temporarily disable some of the advanced audio processing techniques to try and bypass these issues by lowering your DirectX sound acceleration. To lower your sound acceleration, do the following:

    Click Start.
    Click Run.
Type in DXDIAG into the available text field, and press OK.
Once the DirectX Diagnostic tool has loaded, click on the Sound tab.
This tab will show you your sound device and drivers.
Warning : Should this tab be blank, refer to your computer manufacturer for the proper sound drivers.
In the DirectX Features section, adjust the slide bar from where it is currently to Basic acceleration.
Warning : This may disable advanced audio features which worked previously in other games. Should you notice a negative change in any other game, simply change the acceleration level back to where it was or to Full Acceleration.
    Click the Exit button.
Start your game, and verify that the game now works properly.
    As to updating the drivers.
the linkd to MSI's exact page for you is:

    Best of luck,

    Simon
