    1. In my understanding you dont have to buy the same type but if you buy a faster gig of ram it will run as fast as your original 1.
    2. Ofcoarse it will

i believe also that u will get a fps boost. dunno why, but some ppl have tried experimenting with and like upgrading from 1 gig to 2 gigs of ram gave like a 10fps boost

You are best matching ram modules in your system, buying the same brand and model specification.

However, there are times when you don't

          1) if your ram isn't the best you can fit in your motherboard, it is pointless sticking more of the same 'slower' ram in. ie. if you can fit pc3200 and you only have pc2100 or pc2700 in place.

          2) if you have a motherboard taking max pc3200 ram where you already have 2x512meg sticks of pc3200 and getting another matched pair of same make and model seems to be the answer, however that motherboard only runs the ram at pc2700 when having 4 sticks in. (like mine )

If you stated your motherboard and existing ram, this question could have gone a lot easier!

if you have money to burn, and have ddr2, then adding a gig is a good choice. however, if you're still with the older ddr standard, you're almost shoveling money down a hole.

It may work fine, but your faster stick will be running the same speed as the old stick now

As said above, yes it'll make a huge difference. I have to have my BF2 settings on medium so it doesn't go over 1GB ram... I know for sure my graphic card can handle the game on full graphics though.

I bought some nice 2GB Corsair RAM (2x 1gb kit) and boy my comp smoked BF2 after that.

Unfortunately it didn't last and I froze up after a few hours. I guess it wasn't compatible after all, but boy it worked like a damn when it did.

Now I have to return this, and find some proper stuff, and suffer through 1GB again for a while.
