Reinstall all drivers. Video, sound card, LAN card, monitor, DX9, etc.

everything now seems to be in working order, reinstalled the drivers and changed the quality settings from quality to high quality in the nvidia panel, which in theory should have slowed down my gameplay but in this case it made it work better 1600*1200 full settings 4aa and now flawless gameplay.

                Thanks for the help guys.

                      Re: Help with performance!!!

I've got a problem with stuttering too. The last few weeks have been fine, but last night gameplay was stuttering massively! So I switched the LCD on my kb to check RAM usage (I'm only running 1Gb DDR2 atm) and I noticed the CPU usage was up around 98-100%. The RAM usage was where it usually is, around 95%

I'm usually pretty mindful of what i've got running while I'm playing so i'm not too worried about the RAM usage. Any ideas of what could be chewing up the cpu usage?

                      Specs:
                      AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Dual Core
                      Nvidia 7900GS
                      1Gb DDR2 533Mhz RAM
                      320Gb HDD

Try turning off your paging file? I did this when I upgraded to 2gb, went on high settings, and found there was stuttering. This trick worked for me. You should only do this if you have a high ammount of RAM though (say 1.5gb+).

Turning off the page file then restarting it will in essence defrag it. Don't run a computer completely without a page file if you want long term stability.
