ok so i want to download some mods, but, how do they work, if i download a mod what do i do with it (FILE PLACEMENT) and will it effect my regular play with bf2?(RANKED). also what is the best mods to download, (POPULAR)?

You cant play ranked with mods for one thing, and no it wont effect it in any other way. You open up mods with their own EXE file - well some anyways.
Most mods come in a zip file. All you have to do is unzip it to your desktop then read the ReadMe file. That will give you install instructions. Some come with automatic installation, others you have to manually install.
I suggest Point of Existence. I played that and found it great. Its 1GB though so it takes a while to download. Theres also Operation Peacekeeper. Just take alot in the Mods Index on the homepage. -

They coem in .zip, unzipo thern usually a .exe then boot BF2 Click Communtiy, Game Mod's and Activate ModComment

- they need bf2
- the big mods don´t change anything in the maingame (like PR, USI, OPK,... )
- you can start them with an desktopicon or ingame.
- running like BF2.

So just to clarify AGAIN...if I have installed a Mod, I don't have to do it over a clean install of the unpatched game, and I don't have to have a separate unmodified installation in order to play ranked vanilla BF2?Comment

nope not at all,
i wold recomend project reality 0.4 mod.
~if you get it remember though that pr has a decent learning curve to it, more then vanilla.Comment

atm you have ONE folder in battlefield2/mods/ named BF2.
Every mod like Operaytion Peackeeper will add in this folder a new one, f.e.
battlefield2/mods/OPK.
this will not cause any problems with you installation of BF2 vanilla.
You can play ranked as before or the mod.Comment
