Hitting your target with SRAW/ERYX.

Ok, yesterday I was playing on 24/7 Road to Jalalabad. Vehicles were on, so I thought I could go for Basic AT, so I chose the kit.

Well, I was having great fun destroying tanks. But, when they race towards me with Humvees & "Sandbuggys", I couldn't hit them. No, nothing helped.

They just drove towards me, and I fired with my ERYX, miss. First I thought I shot under the car, so I tried again. Directly towards the transport, no hit.

Why's that? Played today on the same place, same thing. Can't hit transporting vehicles.

theres a bug where rockets go through vehicles, not just AT rockets but APC rockets & TV Missiles

thats why i dont try to hit jeeps from the front, i like to try and chase them with my AT rocket, nice surprise if they suddenly stop

I always go out in the open and bring their attention to me, when they try to run me over boom! a rocket right to their car usually no more than 10-15m away.

Hmm I usally don't hit the transports that are flying by me but some days I get lucky with my at mines and they get killed then i see up in the corner I killed 1-4 people.

Unless those rockets happen to be coming at your jeep.. in which case they hit every time.

So someone has figured out where to hit on a jeep, because it happens enough times to me that I always say "WTF?? How come they can hit me but I can't?"

Two ways.

Walk backwards while firing as they are heading towards you. You get more hits that way.

Hit the ground just in front of them. It's a tougher shot but the splash damage usually gets them.

OR

Wait till EA fixes the bug (ha ha)

it's mostly due to combination of small hitbox and fast speed

when a dpv goes 100mph across your screen, hitbox basically leaps to a different spot between updates (BF2 servers run at rather low tickrates when compared to other games), and it's almost never where the image of a transport is at your screen.

you CAN score hits on it, but it requires practice, and basically almost always requires aiming your rocket at somewhere else but directly at vehicle. Few pointers :

- aim at engine height or lower. If the transport is speeding towards you, let the rocket drop a bit, then straighten the flightpath so it's skimming a bit above the ground.

- practice. If you shoot enough rockets aiming ahead, nose, middle or after the transport, you'll start noticing patterns. Also, steering rockets isn't quite point and click, they sort of lag behind. If you're taking a long range shot, you need often to overdo everything. Tracking a target all the way usually makes the rocket fall behind.

- Transport that's speeding away from you is by far the easiest shot. Take that one, if you have a choice.

- stick to nordic servers. Latency has a LOT to do with it, and if you stick to servers at same region, hit registration is consistent (or at least consistently off :))

whenever rocket goes through a transport, this is almost always the reason. There are (were ?) bugs involving phantom rockets, but they're actually rather rare, and often server-dependant (overloaded servers tend to have more of them).

On coming, I shoot to the left or right and hook the round into the rear side of the vehicle (rear quarter panel). Front quarter panel is OK too. It doesn't always work but a straight away fast ball down the pipe, almost always goes through.

Or I go high and try to bring the round down onto the top of the vehicle. This works well against hovering helicopters, not because of fast speeds and hit boxes but because there's more surface area shooting downward at a helo, rather then right at it. The forward profile is just too hard to put one right on the nose of the cockpit. If the helo sways just a bit (which they do a lot) the round skims past.

I like the idea of bursting the round infront. I'll try that. Sometimes when they are coming fast it's very hard to time the "hook" in the round to impact on the side of the vehicle.

Keep trying though. I think the AT round is one of the most under appreciated aspects of this game. It takes some finesse to make a good shot.
