I don't need to see my fps. The constant 100 in the top left puts me off. Why would you want to monitor it? Surely you can see for yourself if you're getting graphics lag?

Are we speaking of recording the sessions? If so...is fraps or whatever the way to go? My caln and I have been talking about recording pratices.

Yeah, you're right, the constant 250 in the corner REALLY pisses me off :laugh:

The general.con thing didn't work. Well, actually, it pulls it up the first time but the bloody game overwrites it again. Meaning if you want this to work, you have to make it read only, meaning no changes to favourites and filters and general settings.

Tsk tsk, no modifying of game files or you are a cheater! And yes, you have to make it read only and fraps OSD does decrese framerate and renderer.lockfps helps if your fps is stuck at 100.

I have been using fraps as my ingame fps for 2 years now....whoever thinks the little yellow number hurts your fps....needs a better GPU

The little yellow number does nothing to my GPU. The process that runs in order to display that number takes resources. Any external program to show information about another program affects the performance of the program being tested. It's a basic law of science and mathematics.

Google: Heisenberg uncertainty principle which should lead you to the observer effect.

The point he's trying to make is that if it is really hurting your FPS, that means you have a ****ty graphics card.

I'm sure he realises that it uses resources, it's just that it uses such a tiny amount, you shouldn't even worry about it.

It didn't matter when I ran at 1280x1024. At 1600x1200, 5 FPS is a bigger difference with this card. For me the difference between a constant 40+ and dropping down to 30-35 is big.

UPDATE: I've made it working, with minor trade off. You can still have your server bookmark/history though.

Generally you've to

1. pick one of the *.con file
2. edit/add the renderer.drawfps 1 line to the top of that *.con file, save
3. make that *.con file read-only.

The trick is, pick a *.con file that you don't need to update every-so-often. General.con is a bad choice unless you don't give a darn to your server history/favorites. I ended-up picking Audio.con file since I don't adjust in-game volume that often.

camperstruck is right. General.con will get overwritten as soon as you start/quit BF2. Same with almost all other *.con files in your profile.

p.s. say thanks to camperstruck as well. He did remind me about problem of using General.con . Thanks to Google and this thread on EA UK forum as well:
