        thx
i have 3.2 intel chip, 2 gig ram, x800 ATi card....2007WFP monitor, all newest drivers installed....i'm using vga cables, my dvi is too short...

What happens is, with my DVD for BF2/2142 in the drive, I click on the executable shortcut on my desktop. I hear the DVD rotate, the ea BF2/2142 logo appears, the screen goes all black, sits for 1-2 seconds, then returns to my desktop.

I tried to run the game by double clicking on the DVD, same thing happens as listed above.

        I researched various forums, which some noted to change the target string. I did that also and changed mine to;
        "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1

I also re-installed the newest ATI X800 video card drivers (5.13) and reboot my system.

i think i read a post where you have to edit one of the config files for bf2 so that the resolution is 600 x 800 because the new monitor might have a different resolution causing it to not work. After you do that, then change the resolutio to your liking in game. Ill try to find a link.

Is your refresh rate the default? Go to your BF2 installation directory, then mods\bf2\settings\VideoDefault.con and edit "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0" to "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1" and save.

Also edit your BF2 shortcut to something like this:

                C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start /high BF2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

(replace 1280 with your desktop width, and 1024 with the height). That shortcut just starts it high priority in Windows (you have to set the "start in" box to your BF2 directory where the exe is located).

                    My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000x (x = your live profile)
                    delete video.con

                    My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
delete everything, all the curly brackets

if you are lucky itll boot into default vid mode from there

                        you can:

                        a) hook up your previous monitor, set the video to 800x600x16, hit apply, exit, and then hook up your new monitor and change the res/color to suit

                        b) reinstall bf2

                        c) do some creative editing (search the boards) of the video files

                        good luck
