Some problems

Hello.

Just re-installed BF2 after formatting my PC. For some reason it wont let me install the 1.41 patch (the setup crashes) or start the game at all, it crashes after about 2 seconds. Any help would be appreciated?

My specs...

Athlon 3700
2gb RAM
X1600XT

Please help :)

Redownload the 1.41 updater. The only other thing I can think of is to re-reinstall BF2.

Well it doesnt really say anything, just closes without warning.

Yeah, I get to the part where the patch thing comes up, and after a few seconds it all crashes. I'm gonna re-install and see if it works then.

I finally found my CD key last night, and had some similar problems installing/patching, especially w/SF. What finally made it work was a "clean boot", where you go into your msconfig setup and turn off all non-windows services and all start up programs, and then run the install/patching program. Turned out (as best as I can tell) that my security software was glitching up the install/patch process, even after I had closed the programs and terminated their processes via taskmanager.

As an aside, I noticed BF2 ran a little better, and my map loading times/client verification took A LOT less time after a clean boot, but I'm not sure it's worth leaving my firewall pants down.

Depends on whos security software/firewall it is. Norton? Can it. Go with windows and AVG and you'll run almost as tight and 10x as fast.

Still no luck. I guess it's not meant to be. What really pisses me off is that it worked fine before I reformatted, and BF2142 works fine as well.

not to hijack the thread, but i am running CA's internet security suite--their proprietary anti-virus/anti-spy packaged with a rebadged version of zonealarm 2006. i keep CA because they always offer me a new license for ~$20.

back on topic--OP, did you try a clean boot?

May seem stupid but after it closes, check to see what version your running...Maybe it updated and turned of by itself.

Well I just installed the game and haven't even played it yet so I'm pretty sure it's version 1.0 :)
