Just wondering how all the good pilots learn't how to fly jets or helicopters and to see if I could pick some tips up on learning.

Re: How did you learn to fly?

I started in like October 05 on the demo with that ^^^ then it got ****ed up around december or something and got an extreme 3d PRO, and I changed the spring within the first couple of days because I completely hated the "stiffness" (it's more than stiffness)..
and then I got another one in like august 06 or something and I still have that one.. I still have the same softer spring from my first one.Comment

Re: How did you learn to fly?
never flew a thing untill I got given this game. Took me about 2 months and a lot of deaths untill I could stay in the air. I still suck at dog fighting.
But I do enjoy flying around and doing stuff that you are not allowed to do in the real world.
Go and start your own server and practice in there. I didn't discover this untill I'd annoyed the heck out of everyone else in game. It will save you a lot of deaths in your stats. I use a Force 3D Pro joystick and with JoyToKey it is very good to fly with.
Have funComment

Re: How did you learn to fly?
I learned with a mouse, but I think you can only take it so far. I can fly against anyone in a helo, but in the jet a mouse won't cut it for air to air. You can bomb them into the stone age, though:-) My Logitech Extreme 3D is on the way... (yeah, the Saitek looks way cool, I know)Comment

Re: How did you learn to fly?
There are tons of guides. There are a great series of videos. I suggest watching and reading. then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE offline. Then for teh chopper, find a good pilot that will mentor you as his gunner. See how he reacts to the surroundings in comparrison to what you have learned. Try to emulate him if he is really good. You will find yourself watching how all the pilots handle things and laughing your butt off at more than half the newbies who just grab the chopper first and flip it in 15 seconds or worse, circle around in the air to gain the stupid 15 minutes of time for their basic badge, robbing their team of an asset.Comment

Re: How did you learn to fly?
In the very early days of BF2, it was easy to practice in pub games because everyone flew the same... which is to say, poorly. After a few embarassingly bad initial runs, I picked it up rapidly but still not well enough for me to consider flying around with other people, so I started flying alone in my own local server using Dragon Valley: using the tubes that run the entire map, I really learned to fly and after a few hours, I was ready to play in pubs. I must have flown for 2/3 of my time in the heli.
After a while, I started using the gunner seat... and a little bit later, learned to solo. There are plenty of videos and guides to learn (look under my name for a good guide), Army-DR- made excellent tutorials for beginners.Comment
