Help after Installation

I just installed Battlefield 2, and then I put the Installer Disc in the drive and clicked "Play BF2". Then the Battlefield2 screen comes on for couple of seconds, then goes black (as if it is running the game), and then goes back to my desktop screen. Basically I can't load the game. Anyone know what's going on?

And also when the try to setup NVIDIA, it says, "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Can anyone help me out?

Dont do the nvidia drivers on it. Those are very old

Can you post up your system specs, make sure you have your game patched and have a good enough video card

yeah im guessing that u dont have a good enuff video card. prob something intel integrated or non-nvidia graphics card

I have the following drive...(by the way, I put in a 1GB RAM in there, so it has 1.5 GB right now)

the Intel vid can't push BF2.

My suggestion? Nvidia. There are lots of models. Go with what you can afford and don't be stingy. Make sure your power supply is at least 350Watts or more or you'll need to update it first. And if you have one of those Sony's that use the small power supplies, you are just SOL unless you replace the case too.

That depends on what setting you want to play the game at. With my 6600GT
I play at 1280x1024 with medium and low settings 100% view distance and 2xAA and 2xAntistropic filtering for good measure!
But my cards getting old now and you should try a 7600GT if your on a budget.

does my sony vaio rb30 support the 7800GTx video card?? (or is there any video card that works fine but isn't as expensive as the 7600gtx)
and what is the deal with the power supply on my vaio and the game itself???

Some Vaio have small power supplies (physically small) so that when you go to buy a beefy one, it won't fit. You need to find out the following (look it up either in your manuals or the sony website)

Does your motherboard have PCI Express or AGP. You need to know this so you can get the right kind of card.

Is your powersupply only 250W or lower and is it refered to as Micro or Mini in any way.

I think it has quite possibly PCI because I have two PCI Express slots for expansion, quoted:
"One x16 PCI Express (available), One x1 PCI Express (available)"


as for Power Supply, all it says is:
"Power Requirements

Power Management
ACPI 1.0 Compliant"

It means it's too weak to push a superior vid card. Doesn't say it's form factor. Can you peek inside the case and eyeball measure it?

Well, you will have to get a new PSU to power any of the newer and good cards.

What is your budget and where do you live?

im at Los Angeles, California. my computer is a Sony Vaio Desktop RB-30 with only a 1GB RAM upgrade, and I didn't do anything else with it. the following are the specs of the box...

OK, I've checked. You have the small power supply like I thought. Here is a thread of someone in your situation.

His desire to change computer cases is the only alternative. If you have never done it before, this should not be your first choice. Find a computer house or a friend that will do it for you.

Most of the new cases you look at will also come with power supplies. One specific place that may be close to you is Fry's. They are always dumping something for cheap. You may contact their service dept. to see about swapping out all your stuff from the vaio chassis into your new case.

Then you will still need the PCI-e video card. I suggest this one
