Battlefield crashes my PC

I hope anyone can help me with this problem.

When I join a BF2 server,, my PC seems to crash after 2 seconds.
But when I create my own server it works fine.

I have the same problem with BF42 now,, and I've got both games legal.

I've updated windows, motherboard drivers etc.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
MOBO: Gigabyte 7VAXP
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM

Card name: RADEON 9800 PRO
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RADEON 9800 PRO AGP (0x4E48)

BF2 and BF42 used to work on this, than I got another motherboard that later broke down, so I used this one again.

Maybe it's something with Punkbuster, I've got that updated too with BF42 and BF2.

It could be a connection issue. Do any errors pop up? And what version are you running

I've got the latest versions of BF42 and BF2.

I've tried non-punkbuster servers and my PC restarts itself.
I have the newest ATI drivers,, and tried the oldest ones.
With and without chipset drivers it resets.

I have no anti-virus or firewall running and I'm not behind a router.
I've scanned my PC with 6 different programms and some registry cleaners and it still doesn't work.

It probably is something with my motherboard but it always worked with this one for about 2 years...

Something crappy in the Refractor engine netcode that reboots my PC.

I've had this problem in the past, try upping the amount of virtual memory that you are using.

Try removing the Battelfield 2 folder from your My documents folder and let the game create a new one when you go back in. See if this cleans up it's actions. You will need to know your login and password and also you will lose your custom keyboard setups doing this.

PC scan/clean
Punkbuster on/off servers
Chipset drivers
ATI drivers
Profiles

How about the driver for the ethernet? Try a reinstall maybe? I know I'm grasping...
